  • The two main composers of the Calvinist Baptist hymns of the 18th century were undoubtedly Benjamin Beddome (1717-1795).
  • Who was pastor of the Baptist cause from 1740 at Bourton-on-the-Water.
  • Gloucestershire; and Anne Steele (1717-1778).
  • Daughter of Hampshire Baptist pastor.
  • Farmer.
  • And lumberjack William Steele (1689-1769).
  • His hymns were an instrument of revitalization for the English Calvinist Baptist community of the late 18th century.

[?] A few years ago, Broome discovered a letter between Steele’s works in the Angus Library archives at Regent’s Park College, Oxford, revealing a link between these two great hymns. In fact, it appears that Beddome proposed to her on December 23, 1742, which was rejected by Anne. The territory of love has its ups and downs, and the rejection of offers of love is not uncommon in the topography of this map.

[?] From a more optimistic perspective, can we see how the hymnbook Beddome used poetry to express his feelings? In this case, the poetry of John Milton (1608-1674)?It is an excellent reminder of the role that poetry plays naturally in the communication of love.

Forgive me for the audacity that drives me to throw these few lines at your feet, if constantly thinking about yourself and dissatisfaction with everything else can be considered a test of love, then I am certainly living passion. I can make up for the lack of skill, wealth or beauty, so I humbly plead with you. Since I first had the opportunity to see you, I’ve thought a lot about Milton’s beautiful description of Eve in the book:

? It seemed so beautiful and beautiful

That as before in the universe

Did the average child think it was beautiful now?

Or that the beauty of the whole world

In such a soft body, they summarized,

Especially with benign eyes

They have infused memos since then

In my heart so sweetness

Who’s never tried it before?

Miss, give me your permission to tell you that these words express the true experience of my soul and that I believe it is not possible to stop loving it, would you allow me to come before you to present to you these confused statements of the mind, which cannot be represented by a shaky hand and a pen?Let me throw myself at your feet and tell you how much I love you and how much you could ease an oppressed mind. At the same time, give me the opportunity to declare, bluntly, that I am, sincerely,

A servant dedicated to you

? Benjamin
