Why we love our enemies

Verse of the day: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you (Luke 6. 27).

There are two main reasons why Christians should love their enemies and do them good.

First, reveal something about God’s appearance: God is merciful

Therefore, when Christians live this way, we demonstrate something about what God is.

The second reason is that Christians’ hearts are satisfied with God and are not guided by a desire for vengeance, self-exaltation, money, or earthly security.

God has become our fully satisfying treasure, so we do not treat our enemies for our own sense of need and insecurity, but for our own fulness with God’s fulfilling glory.

Hebrews 10. 34: “Have you joyfully accepted the loot of your property [i. e. , without retaliation], knowing that you yourself have a higher and longer lasting inheritance? What suppresses the impulse of vengeance is our deep confidence that this world is not our home and that God is our absolutely safe and fulfilling reward.

Therefore, in both reasons to love our enemy, we see what is central: God shows himself as who he really is: as a merciful God and as glorious and fully satisfying.

Is it the last reason to be merciful to glorify God?Master it in the eyes of man.
