Why do I urge all pastors to pontificate explanatory sermons?

There are all sorts of different sermons that a preacher can preach: doctrinal, evangelical, subjects, and various other types of sermons that are not bad in themselves and have their place, but that does not change my deep conviction that the best way to preach to God. faithful and precise word is to preach explanatory sermons. This does not change the fact that the regimen signs more useful for a pastor to feed his people with the word of God week after week are explanatory sermons.

For those unfamiliar with this type of sermon, an explanatory sermon is a sermon that flows and is based entirely on a text, not an idea or topic. I explain it that way. Imagine a stack of building blocks where the lower building block is a biblical text (not a theme) and all other blocks are erected on that block. There are many reasons why I am convinced that explanatory sermons, specifically through whole books of the Bible, are the best, most useful and most faithful way for a pastor to regularly feed his people. But here are some reasons that seem to continue to arise in discussions with pastors who are not familiar with this approach to preaching.

1) Explanatory sermons affirm the authority, power, and sufficiency of the scriptures.

2) Explanatory sermons help our people learn to read the Bible correctly.

3) Explanatory sermons help keep the pastor focused on preaching God’s words instead of human words.

If you are a shepherd, do not ignore my exhortation to preach explanatory sermons such as the regular and constant diet to feed your people with the word of God. The word of God gives life to a church, but we must give it to it regularly and faithfully so that the seed of the word may fall into a good land and bear fruit. I am convinced that explanatory preaching is the best way to sow these seeds.
