JEAN CRISOSTOMO
The Holy Scriptures have a great benefit and their help is sufficient for all needs. Paul emphasized this by saying, “For all that has been written before, for our teaching, is written, so that by the patience and comfort of the scriptures, can we have hope?(Rom. 15. 4; see also 1Co 10. 11) Divine words, in fact, are a treasure that contains all kinds of remedies, so whether we should abandon pride, or extinguish the fire of lust, or trampl on love riches, despise pain, or cultivate courage and patience? In all this, we can find ample means to do so.
ALISTAIR BEGG
When we ask why we should pray, we instinctively return to the Bible, because it is the Bible that inspires and directs us, either when Jesus reminds us that we should pray always and not faint, or when Paul reminds the Philippians that we should not faint. worry about anything, but for all that goes to God in prayer, it is the Bible that keeps us on the right path. When we pray, we truly ask God to put our lives and the lives of others according to His purposes. When we pray this way, we can do it with confidence.
Thus, we can pray for our world, that men and women may come to believe in the gospel; we can pray that workers will be sent to the harvest fields, as Jesus said; we can pray for gospel work in our own lives, to be holy, joyful, and grateful. After doing all this, we must remember that God is much more willing to bless us than we are in taking the time to ask Him.
As Jesus said, “If you, being evil, know how to give goods to your children, how much more your Father in heaven will give goods to those who ask!”(Mt 7:11).
God who listens, may your living Word shape our desires and prayers; that challenge us to pray for things that don’t seem possible; may enlighten our vision of you as we approach you as beloved children; may your Word bring us to our knees, recognizing our need for you!Amen.
