While for a cure

Sometimes I hesitated to describe sin as a disease. I think the reason is because, being reformed, I want to make sure I’m explaining the doctrine of sin correctly. Admitting that sin is like a disease can imply that we can somehow help ourselves in the midst of our sinful state. Therefore, it is common among Calvinists to say, “A dead man cannot believe!?and things like that. Describing our spiritual state in this way is certainly correct. We’re dead. We cannot dictate our way to God. Only at birth again, by the work of the Spirit of God, do we believe. “Did he give you life, having died in your crimes and sins, in which you once entered?(Ephesians 2-2). However, in the Bible, sin is often linked to sickness (Ex 15:26; Come out 103. 3; Mt 8. 17). When Covid-19 spread rapidly throughout the world, I reflected again on sin as a disease. Do I admit that sometimes I’ve used the disease as a metaphor?especially in describing the original sin.

Original sin is a theological concept that is difficult to communicate to people today, especially in the United States. We vote to choose our leaders, choose where to buy a house, and decide which church to go to. Burger King had a well-known motto for several years: “Do it your way. “Can anyone else decide something as important as my position before God?It’s not American culture! However, the Bible says, “Wherefore, as sin entered the world by a man, and by sin death, so death was transmitted to all men, for all sinned” (Rom. 5. 12). In other words, the truth is not only that we have sinned, but also that we are now sins by nature. We are convicted in Adam, and besides, we are born with corrupt mind, will, body and affections. Your disease has been transmitted to us, your children, is there an inherited disease that now affects all generations of the human race?Often, when I explain the subject this way, several people light up and say, “Ah!Now I understand. “

  • Perhaps the reason this metaphor is helpful is that people usually understand how the disease spreads.
  • We do not decide who gets the cold.
  • The flu or the Covid-19; we can try to prevent the disease from spreading and try to mitigate its effects.
  • But the decision to get sick is beyond our control; for the most part.
  • It is out of our control when a disease is passed down from father to child before birth.
  • That’s why we’re now listening to the news cycle with ecstatic attention.
  • Like doctors and scientists.
  • Explain how Covid-19 spreads and how we can avoid it.

Covid-19 spreads, but so does sin. It spreads from generation to generation, until people recognize the depth of their disease, they will not think of a solution, so do we pray for repentance, even in these catastrophic times? So that people can see the depths of their sin and become Perhaps the Spirit of God will use these circumstances to awaken people’s hearts. Of course, this disease teaches us that it’s not just my decisions that matter, it measures social distance and work from home, because when everyone decides to stay home, everyone’s decisions affect everyone.

Meanwhile, as chaos continues, it is clear about the long-term future that we have hope: a vaccine and a cure. Until then, we can take steps to prevent the virus from spreading, but we can’t stop it. all hope for a solution, whether a vaccine or a cure, this solution is that the salvation we hope will bring us back to some extent to our lives, this will introduce a new moment when we can return to the supermarket without fear, we can smile again with our friends at home and we can visit our family again.

Yes, this world is sick. It is no longer as it used to be, however, while we wait for this vaccine or cure, it is worth remembering that Jesus Christ is the ultimate solution to sin and disease. The world was sick even before the outbreak of this virus. Is he worse than sick? I was dead. He’s still dead. The morning of the Resurrection represents the dawn of a new era in Jesus Christ. He is not subject to death; and those of us who believe in him no longer have to fear death. Until jesus’ Second Coming, death will come to all of us, but he will not have the last word. We inherit spiritual life, our body will be resurrected in this new life, as Jesus was, in this new life we will no longer be physically or spiritually ill, we will live together in a city, God will be present with his people. forever, and no sickness or sin will frustrate and terrify us with its silent spread.

So wait and pray for a solution to this crisis. Let him come quickly! But remember that the great remedy against sin and death has already been delivered in Jesus Christ.
