In the previous article, we saw that something seems to be missing in the genealogy of the evangelist Matthew, since he did not tell us who Jesus’ father was:?And Jacob begat Joseph, the husband of Mary, from whom Jesus was born, who is called Christ?(Mt 1:16). Make sure he doesn’t say joseph was Jesus’ father (which would be expected). There’s one question left: who generated it? The evangelist cannot close genealogy in verse 17, he must go further. That is why we have the following account from verses 18-25.
Is it proof that we are on the right path in the same word used by Matthew in verse 18?Genesis? (transliterated) 😕 The birth (???????) of Jesus Christ was like this: Mary, her mother, had committed herself to marry Joseph, but before she joined, did she find herself pregnant with the Holy Ghost?(Mt 1:18). Birth? In this verse is “genesis,” the same word used for “genealogy. “In the first verse of the gospel 😕 Book of genealogy (???????) of Jesus Christ ??(Mt 1. 1. ). The point is that Matthew continues to speak of the origin of Jesus (genesis).
- One might think that Matthew here has in mind not only genealogy itself.
- But also draws a parallel with creation itself.
- The first book in our Bible (Genesis) is the book of beginnings.
- Here.
- In chapter 5.
- Do we have this? D’Adam: Is this the book of Adam’s genealogy?(Gen 5:1).
- Is the key word in Adam’s genealogy?Dead? Every day of Adam’s life was nine hundred and thirty years; And he died?(Genesis 5.
- 5).
- In Adam’s genealogy death reigns.
- Now in the genealogy of Christ (Mt 1:1-17) the key word is “generated”.
- That is.
- Life reigns through the new Adam.
- Jesus Christ.
- There is a new creation happening for him.
But what does Matthew tell us about the birth of Jesus?Twice he claims to have been begat by the Holy Ghost:
? [?] But, before joining, she found herself pregnant with the Holy Ghost. ? Mt 1. 18
?? Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to receive Mary as your wife, for what has been engendered in her is of the Holy Spirit. ? Mt 1. 20
Matthew’s conclusion is clear from this fact. If this is true, this Jesus can only be “Emmanuel, God with us,” as promised by the prophet Isaiah (Mt 1:23). No other man in history has ever been generated like this and there will never be another man. Without a doubt, we are facing the greatest miracle in history! The Pilate crisis, where are you from? (Jo 19:9), it’s decided!Jesus Christ really had a different origin. It was generated by the Holy Spirit and conceived by the Virgin Mary, because it is of divine origin your statements about your divinity and your saving work must be considered truths, so the original problem was solved by Matthew.
Don’t think it was easy for Joseph to understand this reality, for two thousand years Christianity has been working and struggling with this doctrine, put yourself in his place for a moment. If you imagine a virgin woman’s fiancé, the wedding will soon take place, the families are involved and suddenly you get the news that your wife announces a pregnancy from God How would you react?
Add to this tension the fact that it was about four hundred years ago that God did not manifest himself as before in the Old Testament; since the days of the prophet Malachi, theophanies and prophets have ceased in Israel, now says a simple and poor child. She’s pregnant with the Holy Spirit, for Joseph (and for us) this seems absurd! But did God act as always?(1C 1:27). Mary’s pregnancy is proof of this!
Joseph had to choose the path that every man and woman chooses when they accept Jesus Christ by faith: to humble himself before the word of God and accept it as truth (in Joseph’s case, the word of God was said by the angel). are biblical truths that we do not quite understand, but that we always accept by faith. Joseph is a good example to us.
Why is this doctrine of the incarnation so important?
First, without incarnation there is no redemption.
The logic is simple: man has sinned, man needs to be condemned, neither an angel, nor an animal, nor any other creature; at the same time, no human being can bear all the blame and forgive all the sins of men. God could do that. That is why it was necessary for Jesus to be truly God and truly man, see how the author of Hebrews clearly explains it:
“Therefore, it was necessary for him to become like his brethren in all respects, to become a merciful high priest faithful to God, and to make atonement for the sins of the people” (Hebrews 2:17).
God may have sent His eternal Son in the form of an angel, but He did not come to save the angels, but to human beings (?Descendants of Abraham? Heb 2. 16) ,? For this reason, says the author of Hebrews, he had to be entirely a man; God may also have begat Christ through Joseph and Mary, but we would find it difficult to believe that he was God. The only likely path for Jesus Christ, to be a man-God is the doctrine of the incarnation.
But should I also make atonement for the sins of the people? And no human being can provide God perfectly and eternally; no human being could resist complete and definitive divine wrath upon himself; no man has offered his life in perfection and complete holiness. Only God could occupy this position, and that’s exactly what he did. That’s why we have the doctrine of the incarnation. That is why we have this perfect plan of God to bring the Son of God to Mary. He really is God.
If we deny the doctrine of the incarnation, our redemption will be compromised! This doctrine is a holy land. It is the touchstone of the Christian faith. If you deny it, everything collapses!
Second, it is because we believe in the doctrine of the incarnation that we can say that our savior has compassion for us at any time in our existence.
Have you ever cried? He does too!
Have you ever been betrayed? He’s already!
I had nowhere to rest my head!
Have you ever prayed and felt that you are ignored?Remember Jesus’ prayer in Gethsemane?
Have you faced death? He was crucified!
Have you ever felt abandoned? “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? (Mt 27,46)
He felt everything we went through in his skin!
We can turn to Jesus in all our adversities in this life because he was not only a true man, but he remains the god-man, our lawyer and intercessor, together with the Father. Jesus’ humanity will remain for all eternity.
So let them see that the doctrine of the incarnation is more than a theological subject to study, but it is a truth that has profound implications in our daily lives.
Faced with this truth, there is nothing but praise and admiration, nothing better than ending with three verses of Luther’s hymn for his sons in 1535:
Be careful! This is the sign: in the watering hole, in the layers, it is the lousy lie that keeps the sky and the earth and sustains them.
O God, of all the Creator, How humiliated you are, my Lord who came to put you on straw For the cow and the food donkey.
Dear Jesusinho mio, you come to make your crib Very cute in my heart, I will never forget you then
Merry Christmas!
