“You created us for yourself, Lord, and our hearts remain restless until I find rest in you?(Augustine, Confessions).
“Is there a void in man’s heart the size of God that cannot be filled by anything created, but only by God, the Creator, known through Jesus?(Blaise Pascal, Thoughts).
- We are Christians on the path of perseverance and the search for holiness.
- Yet we often let ourselves be deceived.
- Seeking pleasure in other things and not in God.
- Even the way we worship God can be distorted because deep in our hearts it has begun.
- Believe that God was not enough and that we need something else:.
At the beginning of Ezekiel 14, we can hear the fascinating conversation that took place between the prophet and God. Here is the context: instead of presenting and telling the story of God’s redemption to nations, Israel had gradually trained in the worship of the gods of neighboring nations.
Israel’s drive for idolatry did not occur because people were upset by the liturgy of their temple, enchanted by the music of pagan temple worship groups, or impressed by the oratory of the new Canaanite prophet who had just settled in the neighborhood. No one in Israel has sought to find a new service of worship, but new gods to serve them. The center of their worship has passed from God to themselves. They began to worship more than they worshipped God, that is, their relationship with God became utilitarian. rather than doxology.
When the glory of the one living God ceases to be our main passion in life, worship becomes a pragmatic vehicle to carry out two missions in life: provision and protection Instead of living for the glory of God and seeking to sustain us, to become existing for our glory, and to seek gods to meet our demands.
