Verse of the day: However, they did not hear their father’s voice, for the Lord wanted to kill them (1 Samuel 2:25).
There are three implications of this text for our lives.
1) It is possible to sin so much and so seriously that the Lord will not grant repentance.
That is why Paul said that after all our calls and instructions, there is: the expectation that God will grant you,, repent, do not grant them?, repent?(2 Timothy 2. 25). It is too late in the life of sin. As it is said about Esau in Hebrews 12:17: “He found no place to repent, though with tears he sought it. “It was abandoned; I couldn’t regret it.
This does not mean that those who truly repent, even after a life of sin, cannot be saved; they certainly can be and will be. God is wonderfully merciful. Witness the thief on the cross: “Do I really tell you that today you will be with me in paradise?”(Luke 23:43).
2) God may not allow a sinful person to do the right thing
“However, they did not hear their father’s voice, for the Lord wanted to kill them. “Listening to your father’s voice was the right thing to do, but they wouldn’t listen. Why?” Why did the Lord want to kill them?”
The reason they did not obey their father was because God had other purposes for them and had given them to sin and death. This shows that there are times when the will to decree God is different from the will revealed in God’s commandment.
3) Sometimes our prayers that God’s revealed will may be fulfilled will not be fulfilled because God has decreed something different for holy and wise purposes.
I guess Eli prayed for her children to change. I should have prayed for something like that. However, God had decreed that Hofni and Finees did not obey, but were killed.
When something like this happens (which we don’t normally know beforehand), as long as we implore God to change, God’s answer is not: “I don’t love you. “On the contrary, the answer is: “I have wisdom and holy goals not to overcome this sin and not to grant repentance. You don’t see those goals now. Croyez-moi, you know what I’m doing. I love you?.
