What it’s like to pray for your enemy

Verse of the Day: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you (Matthew 5. 44)

Prayer for your enemies is one of the deepest forms of love, because it means you really want something good to happen to them.

  • You can do good things for your enemies without any sincere desire for them to do well; However.
  • Prayer for them is done in the presence of God.
  • Who knows his heart.
  • And praying is interceding before God for them.

Prayer can be for your conversion, for your repentance, that you may awaken to enmity in your hearts; they can be interrupted in their downward spiral of sin, even if sickness or tragedy do; but the prayer that Jesus has in mind here is always for them.

Here’s what Jesus did while hanging from the cross

“Dad, forgive them, why don’t you know what they’re doing? (Luke 23:34).

And that’s what Stephen did when he was stoned:

Then, kneeling, he cried aloud, Lord, do ye not blame them for this sin?(Acts 7. 60).

Jesus calls us not only to do good for our enemies, but to greet them and meet their needs; he also calls us to wish them well and express these desires in prayers when the enemy is not present.

Our hearts must desire your salvation, desire your presence in heaven, and yearn for your eternal happiness. For this reason, we pray like the Apostle Paul for the Jewish people, many of whom have made his life very difficult:

“Will it be the goodwill of my heart and my call to God to be saved?(Romans 10. 1).
