What is the Lord’s prayer? New Town Catechism (41/52)

Question 41: What is the Lord’s Prayer?

Heavenly Father, hallowed be thy name; Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as in heaven; Give us our daily bread today; And forgive us our debts, just as we forgive our debtors; And let us not induce temptation; but deliver us from evil; because for you it is the kingdom, power and glory forever. Amen.

Therefore, you will pray thus: Heavenly Father, hallowed be thy name;

However, do you feel weak and intimidated? For flesh and blood always hinder faith, as if you were not worthy or did not want to pray sincerely; Or do you doubt that God heard you, because you are a sinner?So hold on to the word and say: Although I am an unworthy sinner, I have the commandment of God, who commands me to pray, and his promise, in the Feeling that listens to me attentively, not because I am worthy, but for the love of the Lord, Christ, with this you can turn away your thoughts and doubts and, with animation, kneel in prayer, without looking at whether you are worthy or not , seeing only your need and your word on which you command us to build; all the more so since he has put before you and in your mouth the words about how and what to pray, that you may joyfully send these prayers through him, and put them in your womb, that he may present the dignity he has before the father.

When Jesus’ disciples asked him to teach them to pray, Jesus gave them a pattern of prayer. We call it the Lord’s prayer, and it really is the Lord’s pattern of prayer. This is how Jesus taught his disciples to pray.

When we say “Our Father,” we remember that the God who created the universe is the heavenly Father. He is the Father who provides. He is the sustaining Father, he is the protecting Father. And prayer reminds us that we can run to our Father, so that our needs are known.

But Jesus also remembered that he is not only our Father, but also our King. Therefore, when we say, “Come thy kingdom, will thy will be done?”, we recognize that our Father is the King. We approach our Father, who is the king of the universe, who has full control and authority over all things. Our priority must be our Father, who is King, and the greatest joy for your children is that your name be sanctified, that your name be recognized. He must pray, “God, may your name be recognized. ” The Lord’s prayer is also a collective prayer. Our father reminds us that I am not an only child, our desire is to sanctify your name throughout the country, in the end, this world is not our home and we hope that your kingdom will be finally and completely established. Jesus reminds us that we can approach our Father, when we fail with our Father, when we fail with our King, we can ask forgiveness.

The Lord’s model prayer teaches us that we are totally dependent on our Father for all our daily needs. I think people today tend to forget that. Jesus said that we should pray like this: “Give us the bread of every day. “It’s a lesson in humility. We are immersed in a spiritual battle and need protection. We ask our king to protect us. In fact, the Apostle Paul reminds us that, in spiritual combat, we do not wear our armor; We dress in god’s armor (Ephesians 6:10-18), wear our King’s armor, dress in our Father’s armor, and fight with the strength of our Father. So is it fair and good for us, whatever our needs or circumstances?remember that we are totally dependent, at all times, with every breath, on our Father King, and that we can run towards him. We can get close to him and ask him what we need. As long as you have the breath, you live to be recognized

the name of the king, sanctifying his name, as a church and as individual Christians, aspired to his future kingdom. We wish Jesus the return of the day knowing that, until that day comes, he will forgive our sins, provide our bread, and protect us from the evil one.

Heavenly Father, when we pray for the prayer you have taught us, it prevents us from reciting empty words. May these requests be the cry of our hearts!That is why we ask you to bring your kingdom to earth upon us and through us, by your great name Amen.
