Being this delivered by the determined plan and the prior knowledge of God, you have killed him, crucifying him at the hands of the wicked; (Acts 2. 23)
What is the relationship between a sovereign God and sin?Is God the author of sin? In this video, Bob Glenn summarizes the reformed vision expressed in the Westminster Confession, III. I:? From all eternity, God, by the wise and holy counsel of his own will, has freely and unally ordained all that is happening, but in a sense that neither God is the author of sin, nor that the will of the creature is violated, nor that freedom or contingency is brought to secondary causes, previously established.
Interview with R. W. Glenn: What is the relationship between a sovereign God and our sin?
God is behind every event that has happened or will happen. He orchestrates everything. Even the fall of Adam. And if people have a problem with that, just go to Acts 4 and God’s people are praying and talking about how they scandalously sinned against Jesus, and it happened according to God’s predetermined plan and foreknowledge. If you want to reject the crucifixion, you can say that God is not sovereign over evil. God is sovereign over evil, the question is: how does he relate to evil as sovereign over evil? And theologians like to describe him in this way: he is behind evil and good asymmetrically, therefore he is behind good, being he the author of all that is good, just and beautiful; James 1:17: All perfect gifts come from above, they descend from the Father of lights. Therefore, he is the author of all that is good, therefore he is directly behind the good. But it is asymmetrical because it is indirectly behind evil. James 1 also says that God is not tempted and does not tempt anyone to sin. Thus, God is not the author of evil, but uses the evil that is already in the world for his good purposes; the evil for which we are responsible, the evil for which we are guilty before God. So God is using the evil that is already in the world to further His redemptive purposes. Do not believe evil. He is not the author of evil. But when it comes to the good, he believes, he is the author of all the good.
