What happens to those who have not joined Christ by faith after death?New City Catechism (28/52)

Question 28: What happens after death with those who have not joined Christ by faith?

On the day of the trial they will receive the terrible but just sentence of the sentence handed down against them; they will be cast out of God’s favorable presence, in hell, to be punished with justice and seriousness, forever.

  • For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son.
  • That whoever believes in him may not be lost.
  • But may have eternal life.
  • Because God sent His Son into the world.
  • Not to judge the world.
  • But to save him for himself.
  • He who believes in him is not condemned; who does not believe.
  • Has already been condemned.
  • Because he does not believe in the only begotten Son of God (?) Therefore.
  • Everyone who believes in the Son has eternal life; He who rebels against the Son will not see life.
  • But God’s wrath remains upon him.

As painful as the subject of hell is, it’s something I don’t dare, I can’t and I have no way of keeping my mouth shut. Who would have wanted to talk about the fire of hell if God hadn’t talked about it?When God speaks so clearly, who can shut up?

(?) I know there are some who don’t believe in the existence of hell. They find it impossible to have a place like this. They think it is incompatible with God’s mercy. They say it’s too horrible an idea to be true. Of course, the devil is happy with the opinions of these people. They’re also helping your kingdom. They preach their favorite old doctrine: “You certainly won’t die. “But there is one point to be resolved: “What does the Word of God say?Do you believe in the Bible? So believe this: hell is real and true. It is as true as heaven; as true as justification for faith is; as true as the fact that Christ died on the cross; as true as the Dead Sea. There are no facts or doctrines that you can legitimately doubt if you doubt hell. Do not believe in hell and nullifies, disturbs, and separates everything from the scriptures, and immediately throws the Bible aside. There’s no hell for “there’s no God” there are only a number of stages.

One of the most difficult and often misunderstood teachings of the Bible is that hell is a real, conscious and eternal punishment, and it is understandable that this is the case. Do we all have among us people who do not know Christ, friends, family, neighbors, colleagues? That is why we prefer not to think that hell might be in their future, in fact, people have felt some discomfort about the idea of hell throughout history, because at first glance it seems incompatible with everything we read in the Bible about God’s mercy and love. However, teaching the Bible about hell as conscious and eternal suffering is inevitable. In fact, without the existence of hell, much of what we know about God’s love is being questioned.

First, Jesus, the most loving man who has ever lived on the face of the earth, spoke of hell more often and more vividly than all the other biblical authors put together; described him as Geena, a pile of rubbish where fires were constantly burning. or as outer darkness, where there is no enlightenment, but only misery. In the story that tells of the rich and Lazarus, hell is a place of conscious and real suffering. Jesus constantly warned against hell (Mt 13:41?42; Mc 9,42?48; Lk 16. 19?31).

Second, the existence of hell helps us understand the consequences of sin; in a way, hell is the consequence of what sinners have always wanted: God’s autonomy and independence; in hell, we are deprived of the presence of God and of all. that God is then in hell, there is no love, there is no friendship, there is no joy, there is no rest, because these are things that exist only where God is present.

More importantly, until we recognize the reality of hell, we will not be able to truly understand the meaning of the cross; In other words, we will not be able to understand God’s love until we understand the reality of His wrath. destroys what he loves; God’s wrath comes from his love of creation; comes from your righteousness. He is angry at greed, selfishness, injustice and evil, because these things are destructive. God does not tolerate anything or anyone responsible for the destruction of creation and the people He loves.

Think of it this way. Say, “Do I know God loves me because He would give everything for me?”it’s very different than saying, “I know God loves me because He really gave everything for me. “One is a lovely feeling; the other is an act of love. If it is possible to try to make God more loving by diminishing the reality of hell or God’s wrath, all we really did was minimize God’s love. Without real hell, we cannot understand the real price Jesus paid for our sin. And without a real price paid, there is no real love, no real grace, and no real praise for what he has done.

If we don’t believe in hell, we will never know how much Jesus loved us and how much he appreciates us. Jesus experienced hell on the cross. Jesus was separated from his Father. On the cross, Jesus exclaimed: “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” (Mt 27:46). When Jesus lost the eternal love of the Father, He experienced greater agony, disintegration and isolation than anyone else. of us could experience in eternity in hell, took the loneliness and disintegration that we deserve, unless we believe in hell and see what Jesus has suffered for us, we will not know how much he loved us.

The real question is not how a loving God allows hell to exist. The real question is, if Jesus Christ would live hell for me, then, really, he must be a loving God. The question is not: “Why would God allow hell?exist?” is “Why would God experience hell for me?”However, he did.

Judge of all the earth, we tremble at the thought of the judgment that awaits all those outside your covenant; Before it is too late, that those we love reconcile with you, so that they do not receive the punishment that corresponds to them, which would be ours, if it were not for you. Amen.
