Question 10: What does God require in the fourth and fifth commandments?
In the room, he demands that, on a Sabbath, we spend time in God’s public and private worship; Let’s rest on routine work; we serve the Lord and our neighbor; so let’s anticipate the eternal Sabbath. In the fifth, let us love and honor our father and mother, subjecting us to their pious discipline and leadership.
Everyone should worship their mother and father and keep my Sabbaths: I am the Lord, his God.

Now, is it easy to understand the doctrine of the law? That is, God, as our Creator, is worthy to be considered by us Father and Master and, as a result, receives fear, love, reverence and glory from us. .
We are not ourselves to follow a course that dictates passion; therefore, we must obey him completely, fully accepting his good will. Once again, the law teaches that righteousness and righteousness are delicacies, that injustice is an abomination to him, and therefore we cannot be ruthless and ungrateful and rebel against our Creator. Our whole life must be dedicated to the culture of justice; For if we show respect only when we prefer his will to ours, it follows that the only legitimate service rendered to him is the practice of justice, purity, and holiness. We cannot use the excuse of being debtors because the means have been exhausted and they have left us unable to pay. We are not allowed to measure the glory of God by our ability, whatever it may be; Whatever we are, it always remains what it is, a friend of justice and an enemy of injustice, and what it demands of us is always and only what is fair. We are always, necessarily, in a natural obligation to obey12.

If we read the entire Bible, old, and New Testament, we see that the commandments to keep the Sabbath have two aspects: first, it is a crucial practice. In our lives we are ordered to have a pace of work and rest, and we are prohibited from working too hard.
We have also been ordered to feed our bodies and souls; we don’t just have to feed the bodies. We must rejuvenate our souls through brotherhood and prayer, devotion, and worship each week.
However, it is also true that the New Testament shows us that the Sabbath indicates a deeper form of rest; Hebrews 4 in particular tells us that when we believe in Christ and his gospel, we rest from our works. We are taken away from the heavy burden of having to prove ourselves and work to win our salvation. In this life we obtain much of this deeper rest, but it is only fully realized in the future, in the new heavens and in the new earth. We aspire and wish this. It’s deeply comforting, especially at times when we’re very tired.
The fifth commandment to honor our parents should also be read in the light of the gospel; He says that as children we must obey our parents. as adults, we must respect and listen to our parents; However, the Gospel also reminds us that God is our Father, by grace we have been brought into his family and he is the primary source of our love. If our main philo relationship is with him, we can love and honor our parents, without expecting them to give us what we find. only in God.
Father who gives life, we will not prosper until we walk in your ways. You created us and told us we need to rest. It prevents us from justifying ourselves with relentless work. Give us the humility to honor our parents. May we always live according to your commandments and not to our own instincts. Amen.
