Sexuality and sin
In creating sex, God also set a standard for us to enjoy it in the best way. However, as beings contaminated with sin, do we think we can find?Use sex and have more fun. We believe in the snake’s lie that there is something better than rainbow; something that God deprives us of because He does not want us to be fully happy, however, it is precisely because He wants us to have the eternal joy that God has set us safe limits, obeying these limits is the first step in enjoying sexuality with true joy and contentment.
- The scriptures classify sexual sins into a single category: sexual immorality [1].
- In short.
- Sexual immorality refers to any sexual practice outside the standard of sanctification that God has established.
- There will be no real pleasure or joy if we do not obey this standard Then can we say that obedience is the first step towards biblical sexuality?According to God’s standard.
What do faith and disbelief have to do with sexuality?Much more than we imagined. To live our sexuality according to the standard that God has set implies that we believe that despite the various proposals that the world can present to us, God’s path remains the best. This is faith. To faithfully cling to God’s promises, to believe that our sacrifice, our renunciation, and our submission have a much greater purpose than our existence in this world is also faith. Therefore, biblical sexuality is only possible through a faith based on Christ.
On the other hand, every sin is intimately linked to disbelief, in its heart is disobedience to the Word of God; What is disobedience but an act of disbelief? We stop believing in the Word of the Creator and his promises and put our faith in the created things.
In his book Combating Disbelief, Pastor John Piper states that being satisfied with all that God promises to be to us in Christ Jesus is the essence of faith, every time we stop believing and are satisfied with these promises, we fall into disbelief and sin. .
? [?] Faith is the power that cuts the root of sin. Sin has power for the promises it makes to us. He says: If you lie about your tax return, you’ll have extra money to get what makes you happier. If you look at this pornography, you will have a wave of pleasure that is better than the joy of a quiet conscience. [?] No one sins out of obligation. We sin because we believe [we put our faith] into the deceptive promises that sin makes. [?] The promises of sin are lies. Fighting disbelief and faith in future grace means that we fight fire with fire. Let us put God’s promises to the promises, of sin. [?] We mortify the acts of sin before they happen, when we cut the root that sustains them: the lies of sin.
In short, the fight against sin is first and foremost a battle against disbelief, and disbelief, in turn, is linked to our hearts, the source of all our idols.
When we think of sin, we tend to consider only its external appearance; When it comes to sexual sins, we talk about pornography, masturbation, fornication, adultery, however, we usually set aside the hidden side of sin, its origin, its motivations, the land where it grows until its fruits become visible. 5:28 Jesus said, “Ye have heard that it has been said, Ye shall not commit adultery. But I say unto you, Anyone who looks at a woman with impure intent in her heart has ever committed adultery with her?
How is adultery possible without having a relationship with another person? How to be an adulterer in front of a computer screen?Or covet a colleague, and when I wanted, deep down, to marry my friend’s husband? How is it possible to commit such a serious sin without even externalizing it?
Sometimes, out of fear or false morality, we do not commit certain sins abroad and this brings us a false sense of dignity, what the Bible calls hypocrisy (Mat 23:25), but Jesus goes to the root of the problem by showing that no matter how clean our glass is on the outside, the crucial question is how clean he is inside. Just because our sins are not exposed or seen does not mean that they do not exist. hearts, we will see that there are many more sins than we dare to acknowledge. The things we feed in our minds and hearts, although we do not have the courage to do so, are as sinful as the things we do.
If we look closely at the last commandments described in Exodus 20:13?16: Thou shalt not kill, thou shalt not commit adultery, thou shalt not steal, thou shalt not say false testimony against thy neighbour (x 20:13?16), we will see that at the bottom of every sin there is a strong sense of greed; greed is the cause of murder, adultery, theft, false testimony; If you do not covet your neighbor’s wife, you will not fall into adultery, if you will not covet your neighbor’s things, you will not steal, if you do not covet your neighbor’s reputation, you will not bear false testimony against him, that is, we must flee greed so that it does not lead us to sin. .
“You don’t covet your neighbor’s house, don’t you covet your neighbor’s wife, or [covet] her servants or maids, or your ox or donkey, or [greed] everything that belongs to her?(Exodus 20). : 17).
“Some time later, his master’s wife began to covet Joseph. And one day she invited him: Come and have sex with me!”(Genesis 39. 7)
“A day after lunch, David got up after a little sleep, and went for a walk on the terrace of the royal palace. From the terrace, he saw a woman bathing. And you noticed that she was a very beautiful woman. ? (2 Sm 11. 2)
? Don’t you cook your heart [?] or will you let yourself be seduced? (Proverbs 6:25)
“Having eyes full of adultery [i. e. , immorality], they never stop siding. (2 Pe 2. 14)
? [?] each is tempted by his own concupiscence, when he attracts and seduces him. Then greed, after conceiving, gives birth to sin [?]?(Stg 1. 14?15)
? Convoi and I have nothing; kill and envy, and you can’t get anything; you live fighting and fighting wars. You have nothing, because you do not ask; you ask and you do not receive, because you ask wrong, to waste on your pleasures. Infidels [?]? (Tg 4. 2?4)
Greed attracts, seduces, and enlightens sin; Greed is disbelief because it puts your faith in what you think will satisfy your hunger; greed is a lie, because in the end it reveals its insatiable face: the more you feed it, the hungrier and emptiness you become. Lust is infidelity, because it takes God’s gifts: our bodies, our sexuality, and transforms them into instruments of sin. Greed is an empty and passing pleasure. Greed is wanting something other than God, in a way that reveals a loss of contentment and satisfaction in it. Greed is a heart divided between two gods. Paul calls this idolatry? [3]. In short, greed is idolatry.
