Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not of the flesh, which is obliged to live according to the flesh; For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; But if by the Spirit you kill the actions of the body, you will surely live; because all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God (Romans 8:12-14).

Spiritual titles

Throughout the Bible, titles are given to express the work, purpose, and role of the people to whom they are assigned.

B. The Spirit receives or conquers several titles in the scriptures.

Ⅰ. It’s a creative and recreational mind

II. . Jesus refers to the Spirit as a divine paraclyte.

III. . The Spirit is the Holy Spirit, because he is holy in himself.

II. . The role of the Holy Spirit in creating holiness in the lives of believers

A. La Christian life is full of tension between holiness and sin (Romans 7:14-25).

I. Christians still have sin despite their regeneration

II. . However, as sons and daughters of God, we have a union with Jesus and the abode of the Spirit, which requires holiness.

B. Paul teaches the Romans in his letter how Christians can mortify the actions of the body by the Spirit.

I. The Spirit creates in believers the feeling that they should mortify sin in their lives (Romans 6. 1-11).

Ii. The Spirit makes possible the mortification of sin

III. . The Spirit creates in the believer the feeling that he is responsible for his resistance to the temptation of sin (Philippians 2:12-13).

Iv. The Holy Spirit creates in us the desire to be like Christ.

C. Paul also points out that the Holy Spirit creates patterns in us that make us want to live in a holy way (Romans 8. 1-4, 9-14).

I. The Holy Ghost shifts our attention from the short term to eternity, from the visible to the invisible.

II. . The Spirit directs our eyes to the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, which makes sin unthinkable.

III. . The Spirit gives us an idea and an idea of how we should behave.

Ⅳ. The Spirit enlightens our union with Jesus Christ, which makes any form of sin or union with sin inconceivable. This reality shows that when we sin, our sinless holy Savior is bound to filth because of our actions (1 Corinthians 6:15).
