The gospel is a transformation of the world and a paradigm shift. Nothing can go on like this after believing in the gospel. Why?
First, because the gospel shows us how terrible sin is and how much grace is better. At the risk of siding, all after Adam and Eve were born imperfect. By nature, we are broken and depraved rebels against God (Romans 3. 9). -12). It sounds tough, but it’s true. No one is born to love God, on the contrary, our natural inclination is to hate Him. The gospel is good news just because there’s bad news. The bad news is that sin is real and we are sinners. The punishment for our pecado. es death (Romans 6:23). We rebel against an infinitely good God and then bear the weight of his righteous wrath (Romans 1:18; Cl 3. 6).
- Jimmy Needham described this in a surprising way: he told you to imagine yourself tied to the rails of a train with the huge locomotive of God’s wrath ringing at you.
- You have no escape.
- But there’s one detail: you’re the one who’s glued to the train track.
- It reminds me of the “I’m the second” videos.
- These are videos of eminent personalities who bear witness to the work of the gospel in their lives Do they all seem to have two things in common?Everyone understands (1) that they are sinners and (2) that before Jesus they had no hope.
- It is not possible to receive the salvation and history of the gospel until you see what sin really is.
We were evil and lost (Lk 19:10), and the weight of our sin overwhelmed us, but when you see the horror of your own sin, are you free to see the light of grace? How to remove a black curtain on a sunny day What is grace?Grace receives what we do not deserve, it is an undeserved favor. John McArthur goes so far as to say it’s more than that. It suggests that grace is not merely an undeserved favor; Is it the favor bestowed upon sinners who deserve anger? Is grace God’s sovereign initiative for sinners (Ephesians 1. 5-6)?Grace is Jesus who saves us.
“For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, who, being rich, has become poor for you, that by your poverty ye may be enriched. 2 Corinthians 8. 9
It took me a long time to realize that only people who know themselves as sinners understand grace. All my life, I’ve struggled with my perfectionism. Perfectionists have a problem with grace. We think we’re on top. We’re wrong, believing we deserve success. But it is the “losers”, who realize that they are imperfect, the blessed, because they are humble enough to recognize that grace is totally undeserved.
God must kill, on several occasions, the perfectionist in me, to open my eyes to the dazzling and liberating truth of grace. It keeps happening. I am overwhelmed with expectations of high pressure (for example, at school, in the kitchen, at work, at work, at what I write), and when something goes wrong, I punish myself, then I will take care of my wounded ego, convincing myself that if I can do better and be someone better, I will be worthy.
But the destructive path of perfectionism goes against the gospel. In God’s history, I am not worthy. This is where the gospel begins, I am the failure, the problem, the imperfect, but still, God saved me, he did not save me because I was worthy, but because he was worthy, it is the truth that frees me. from the slavery of perfectionism of my works to the freedom of humble gratitude to which grace gives (Pv 3:4?8). The gospel is the place where perfectionism dies.
Second, the gospel changes our lives by teaching us that our hearts have a Master. Therefore, Christians are not just disciples of Jesus; they are also worshippers of Jesus. We are indebted to God for the last drop of our passion, service, and devotion.
But we didn’t always know. When we began to exist, we loved each other, we were all born with small and powerful thrones in our hearts, which are never vacated, before we were saved we placed ourselves on this throne, we were convinced that the purpose of our existence was to make the King (or Queen) Ego happy, but the gospel brings an explosive revolt against King Ego, taking him off the throne to make way for King Jesus , our new teacher (Rom 10. 9).
We have to make a total return of 180 degrees, we have to stop doing what we have done to please ourselves and we must start living in a way that pleases God, even if it tarnishes our reputation. Even if it destroys our popularity, even if people stop being our friends, even if they make fun of you. Even if it’s expensive, especially if it’s expensive.
This is the inevitable truth: our hearts will always find something to worship and that will motivate our way of life. We live for what we pride ourselves on, what we love. Then why do you live?
In the end, the gospel teaches us that we are not worthy of worship. As pleasant as it is to think that we are, we are not God. Before we were saved, we were helpless, graceless, and totally unable to save ourselves. Jesus wasn’t like that. Jesus was the perfect human being, God incarnate, never in error. He deserves to be our Master and our Lord, He is the one who deserves everything. If Jesus is worthy, He must become our object of worship. Now we have a responsibility, as worshippers, to act in such a way that it brings him glory, to do things that make his name famous, to speak of his righteousness, and we live as if we were neon signs pointing directly at him.
God’s story is our story. We live in the chapter that unfolds today, this story changes everything. Does that mean that we have a new vision of the world, that is, a new way of observing everything around us: good, evil, suffering, sin, community, beauty, shame, time, relationships?Your life will be different because you believe in it There’s no way to dodge it. If King Jesus has taken control of your heart, your life will be a risky and incredibly great adventure. It’s about him. Now let’s live by that.
