Our country was shocked by another tragedy in Minas Gerais caused by the breakage of another dam, this time in Brumadinho, 65 km from Belo Horizonte. The muddy sea has caused the destruction of homes, the loss of hundreds of lives and represents a new ecology. disaster in our country. In the face of disaster, many people are induced to reflect on the presence of evil, suffering and injustice in the world and how this is consistent with the Christian preaching that there is an omnipotent and infinitely good God. Understanding the tragedies, disasters, disasters, and other evils that afflict humanity cannot fail to take into account three components of biblical revelation, which are the reality of man’s moral and spiritual fall, God’s holy and just character, and Jesus Christ’s suffering for us.
We read in Genesis 1:3 that God created man and woman and put them in the garden of Eden, with the commandment not to eat the forbidden fruit, the text tells how they disobeyed God and thus fell from the state of innocence, justice, and purity in which they had been created. This fall affected not only Adam and Eve, but had terrible consequences for all their descendants. His guilt has been attributed by God to his children, and the corruption of his nature has been passed down from generation to generation to all his offspring, that is, all mankind, without exception, since there is no single, innocent and sinless, is subject to the just punishment of God, who understands?Attention!? death, spiritual, temporal miseries (where tragedies, calamities, disasters, diseases, sufferings) fall and spiritual miseries fall (which the Bible calls eternal death, hell, the pond of fire, etc. ).
- The fall of man also had an impact on all creation.
- God said to Adam.
- “Damn the earth for your sake; in tiredness.
- You will live on it during the days of your life.
- Will it also produce thistles and thistles?” And you’re going to eat the country grass?(Genesis 3: 17-19) Disasters.
- Disasters.
- Calamities.
- Tragedies.
- Whether natural or the result of human error.
- Are the result that God curses the earth for the sin of man.
- God allows these miseries and punishments to awaken mankind.
- To deepen repentance.
- To curb man’s sin.
- To instill in it God’s fear.
- To take man off the things of this life.
- And to make him think of the things he must do.
- Come here.
In the face of disasters such as brumadinho, we must remember that they occur in the context of the miseries and temporal punishments resulting from our faults, our sins, as a sinful race that we are. the dam broke and took them all. Or someone much better and more righteous before God. Still, God would not have committed any injustice, even if those who died buried were the best men and women who have ever walked on the face of the earth. these are sinners. There are no innocents before God, let us think about it, before we be outraged at God in the face of human suffering.
Let us not forget, however, that the righteous God is also the God who suffers with us, God the Son became one of us by incarnation within Mary, and lived a life of suffering and pain that ended with his death on the cross. The suffering he endured and endured was not due to sin, for there was no sin in him, neither original nor proper; He bore our pain and experienced our suffering so that we could be justified from our sins, forgiven, accepted by God as his children, to deliver us from eternal suffering and receive eternal life. God knows what it’s like to suffer. That’s why we can find answers and comfort in the hour of pain.
Finally, I need to clarify three things. First, nothing I have said above prevents me from crying with those who weep and suffer with those who suffer, we are of the same race, and when we suffer, we suffer, second, none of the above prevents me from seeking justice and wanting those responsible for the dam to be held accountable.
Third, it must be acknowledged that biblical revelation is sufficient, but not exhaustive. We don’t have all the answers to all the questions that arise when such a disaster occurs. We do not know God’s ultimate and ultimate goals with this tragedy. Only eternity, will reveal it. We must live with the lack of these answers on this side of eternity, but it is better to accept answers that may negate the Bible’s clear teaching of God, such as speculating that it does not exist, or that, if it exists. , who is neither sovereign nor omniscient and omnipotent. He may not know the specific reasons, but it comforts me to know that God is just, good, and true, that all his works are perfect and righteous, and that there is no error in him.
