Meditation on science, knowledge and divine splendor.
I thank God for the wonderful discoveries of science that go beyond my limited understanding. They’re like a blind man who keeps bringing wonderful jewels to the table. It is wrong to say that all scientists are blind or that one of them is blind. If they were blind, I would probably have died of polio or smallpox by now, I would have no electricity, cooling, word processor, combustion engine in my car, instant radio news or flights to Winnipeg (not to mention flights to Mars). Aren’t scientists stupid or blind?
- But what word will I use to describe the eye or heart that might have discovered the Star Gun and did not adore God.
- Did he not even mention it?Let me breathe.
- There are two admirable things in this morning’s paper (October 8.
- 1997): one is the discovery of the greatest star ever known; the other is the absence of God.
- The two wonders amaze me.
The news begins like this
Imagine a star so large that it would fill the solar system in the space of Earth’s orbit, which is 150 million kilometers from the Sun. Is it such a turbulent star that its eruptions would spread a cloud of gas that would extend to more than 4 lights?the distance between the Sun and the nearest star (about 40 billion kilometers). A star so powerful that it shines with the energy of 10 million suns, making it the brightest star ever observed in our galaxy, the Milky Way. A large, bright star would be unimaginable, according to some theories about stellar formation, but that’s it, right in the middle of the Milky Way (Star Tribune, Minneapolis, MN, October 8, 1997, A4).
Jesus loved the Psalms and believed that they were the Word of God, so I have no doubt that He looked up at heaven at night and adored, “When do I contemplate your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon, and the stars?have you established?” (Psalm 8. 3).
But there is no mention of God in the stories of scientists, there is no worship. With star formation theories? When flown by the Star Pistol, there is one that will remain unwavering. In fact, it’s not a theory, but a revealed truth: “The work of your fingers. “Are the stars working? From God’s fingers. Jesus believed it. It’s true.
So when I read that scientists discovered a new star ten million times more powerful than the sun, it warms my face 150 million miles away, keeps Earth in orbit, and burns (in its coldest layers) at 6000 ° C, I see God’s fingers in a different way. I am forced to tremble and prostrate myself in silence before the greatness of God. When I return to serenity, I am amazed at the absence of God in this story. Is there another word, if not the word “blindness”, to describe it? Jesus would say: “Do the heavens proclaim the glory of God, and the firmament proclaim the works of his hands? (Psalm 19. 1). Not to see the glory of God in the star of the Gun means to be blind. Open your eyes. God. To give you eyes that can see. Jesus spoke of those who, seeing, do not see, and hearing, do not hear? (Matthew 13:13). Oh, that you are not one of them! The universe exists to help him. to know God the Creator. And the main message is that He is very great and we are very small. We have to feel this greatness. We must be able to say: “Therefore, you are very great, Lord God, why not there like you (2 Samuel 7:22). “Great things you have done, oh God; Who likes you (Psalm 71,19) What god is as great as our God? (Psalms 77. 13) Because you are great and do wonders; only you are God! (Psalm 86. 10)? Your works are great and wonderful, Lord God Almighty. (Revelation 15: 3) Is the Lord great and worthy of praise? (Psalm 48. 1). Bless the Lord, my soul. Lord my God, how magnificent are you: invaded with glory and majesty? (Psalm 104. 1).
Are we doubly surprised when telescopes give us information about God’s greatness, admired for the power of God and the absence of worship.
