Verse of the day: Little children, do not be deceived by anyone; the one who practices justice is as he is just. He who practices sin is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this he manifested himself the Son of God: to destroy the works of the devil. (1 John 3:7-8)
When verse 8 says, “For this, the Son of God has manifested himself: to destroy the works of the devil? What are the? Works of the devil? John in mind? The answer is clear from the context.
- First.
- Verse 5 is a clear parallel: “Do you also know that he manifested himself to take away sins?”The phrase “manifested himself” appears in verses 5 and 8.
- So is it likely that the “works of the devil”?that Jesus came to destroy both sins.
- The first part of verse 8 makes this practically true: “He who practices sin comes from the devil.
- For the devil sins from the beginning.
- “.
The problem in this context is sin, not disease, broken cars or frustrated projects. Jesus came into the world to help us stop siding.
Let me compare it to the truth of 1 John 2. 1: “My little children, I write these things to you so that they do not sin. “In other words, I promote the Christmas goal (3. 8), the goal of the incarnation. adds (2. 1-2): “But if any sin, we have a Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ, the Righteous; and it is propitious for our sins and not only for our own, but for those of all. World?
But now look what it means: Jesus manifested himself in the world for two reasons: He came so that we would not continue to sin; and he came to die so that there would be propitiation, a substitute sacrifice that would eliminate God’s wrath, for our sins, if we sin.
