One of the most common childhood dreams is to visit the most famous places in the world. How would you react if a friend sent you an email inviting you to tour Europe?I suppose you’d jump for joy.
Israel had three annual festivals to exalt God’s saving acts. At one point, someone said, it’s time to pack!Let us go to Jerusalem to thank God for his goodness! At that moment, another pilgrim said: I am happy, I am overwhelmed with joy!God is good and with joy I will excel at my God.
- Psalm 122 is the canticle of joy in God; it is the expression of joy in the Lord; It is also David’s first canticle to appear in the jumperion in the stands and also underscores Zion’s importance to the unity of the people.
- So let’s see what this psalm teaches us about joy.
In verses 1 through 4, David expresses intense but lucid joy, joy immersed in remembrance, obedience, and gratitude for God’s powerful actions, it can be said that the Psalmist was happy for the following reasons:
David was also happy because the Lord was doing justice among his people. At this point, I believe that verse 5 is at the center of a literary structure. Notice that in verses 1 and 6, David speaks of the house of the Lord, and in verses 2-3 and 6-8, the theme of the city resounds, verse 5 reproduces the theme of justice in one line, let me illustrate this:
The? Lord’s House
C? The Thrones of Justice
Vs? ? The House of Lord
What were the thrones of justice? Certainly, if someone had unfinished business to solve with someone else, in Jerusalem, before the truth of God’s law, all demands could be pacified by the king. The idea was this: the king, according to the heart of God, will put everything It is also possible to think of the thrones of justice as the place of the ministry of truth. Jerusalem was the place where debts and doubts were dispelled by the proclamation of God’s truth.
Verses 6 through 9 indicate a mobilization for peace. David’s joy was serene, interested in God’s truth, and rooted in God’s shalom. The Psalmist made the decision to ask for Shalom in Jerusalem. Peace is a term with great meaning in this prayer. Let’s see how David prayed:
Psalm 122 is a psalm of joy in God. As Christians, in every service, we come together to celebrate what God has done for us through Jesus Christ. We praise the Lord because His Word is sovereign. In each service, we receive the Word of the Lord. instruction for the organization, enlightenment and sanctification of our lives. When we worship, we perform the greatest political act for peace. When we pray, we pray for a prosperous, safe, loving peace in God. Psalm 122 is the way to sing Hebrews. 10:25 in the Old Testament. Psalm 122 says loudly and clearly that the life of communion with God is a life of joy. When God’s love, through Christ, invades the pilgrim’s heart, the main reason for joy is found. In this you find forgiveness, truth, justice, peace and joy!
