Sinners: All (Paul Washer) [12/26]

In addition to a biblical vision of God, man’s greatest need is a biblical vision of himself. Here we find a stark contrast between secular thought and biblical truth. Is it the contemporary view that man is fundamentally good and that his greatest problems come from harmful external influences?social, political, economic and educational factors, to name a few. In contrast, the scriptures teach that man is a fallen creature and that the moral corruption of his heart is the source of all his evils.

As we preach the gospel of Jesus Christ, we must strive to communicate to our listeners a biblical view of sin and sinner. Exposing the scriptures to the power of the Holy Ghost is the only way to make that effort. Work is difficult and often misunderstood, but it is as necessary as plowing the field before sowing the seeds. Our job is to talk about the subject most men prefer to forget. Our work is unusual because the degree of conviction, disruption and sorrow created in the hearts of our listeners is our measure of success. It’s a difficult road, but it’s the only way to salvation.

  • In Romans 3:23.
  • The term sin is translated from the more common Greek word for sin.
  • Hamartáno.
  • Which means to miss the mark.
  • Miss.
  • Or stray from the path.
  • The most common Hebrew word for sin is boring and has the same meaning.
  • The judge’s writer communicates the idea behind the two words when he tells us that Benjamin’s men “threw a stone into his hair with a sling and did not miss.
  • ” The Proverbs sage also warns that “who sins [or strays from the path] who is reckless?” [2] From a biblical point of view.
  • The goal that man must aim for and the path he must walk is the will of God.
  • Any thought.
  • Word or action that is not in full conformity with this standard is a sin.
  • Even the slightest deviation leads to guilt.
  • For this reason.
  • The Great Westminster Catechism defines sin as “any lack of conformity with the law of God.
  • ” (p.
  • 24).
  • Is it important to note that Scripture is never presented? as an innocent or unintentional mistake.
  • It is always an act of willful disobedience that results from moral corruption and man’s hostility toward God.

In our text, the accusation of sin was placed before all men, without exception, “for all sinned. “This same feeling resonates in all Scripture. In the Old Testament, we read, “There is no man who does not sin. “and “There is no righteous living person. [3] The wise and sullen King Solomon saw through man’s thin cloak of morality and said, “Is there no righteous man on earth who does good and does not sin?The prophet Isaiah searched all mankind and exclaimed, “We all stray like sheep; Did they all stray along the way?[5]

Old Testament writers were relentless in their condemnation of man, but we should not think that New Testament writers had different views or that their censorship was less intense. In Romans 3, the Apostle Paul combines a collection of Quotes from the Old Testament. to demonstrate the universality of sin and the depths of human depravity. This is one of the longest and most direct allegations against humanity in all of Scripture: “What is concluded?Do we have an advantage? Not at all; because we have already shown that all Jews and Greeks are under sin; as it is written: There is no just, not even one, no one understands, there is no one to seek God; everything went aw out of hand, one by one they became useless; there’s no one there to do good, there’s not even one. ?/ 066]

From the scriptures, we see that sin is not a rare or unusual phenomenon limited to a small minority of humanity, but its scope is universal. Each member of Adam’s race joined the rebellion he launched. the scriptures, human history, and their own sinful reflections, words, and actions. The Apostle John goes so far as to say that those who deny the reality of sin make God a liar and prove that they have no relation to him:?If we say we have no sin, we are wrong and the truth is not in us. [?] If we say that we have not committed sin, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

The slightest glimpse of scripture will show that sin is man’s greatest evil, yet no effort of imagination can deny that sin is treated lightly by our contemporary culture and the so-called Christianity it has produced. be more careful to follow the example of biblical writers, who have worked hard to denounce sin and make it totally evil. We must not speak of sin in a general and harmless way, which does not disturb or convert the soul, but we must use precise language, which defines the true character of sin and exposes all its manifestations. Our goal is to paint an image of sin so horrible in the hearts and minds of our listeners that it can only be taken away by the blood of the Lamb. To achieve this goal, we must examine some of the most common and common characteristics of sin.
