Introduction
Today, many have anointed with oil seeking to heal the sick and dedicate goals and people to the Lord. The purpose of this article is not to generate confusion or criticism, but to seek to please the Holy Ghost by obeying the truths of the scriptures. Please do not use this text in your sinful hyperchrytic intellectualism, but correct your brother for love. Moreover, the purpose of this is not a complete detail about the use of oil, mainly in the Old Testament, but question its use in the New with what is currently being done.
- I’m transcribing a portion of the professor’s study below.
- Eduardo Dantas [1] on the same subject.
- Which will give us a good basis to continue:.
1. THE ORIGIN OF OIL
As we read (Exodus 30:22-33), we observed that God established the first guidelines for His people who had freed them from captivity in Egypt and who had made pilgrimages to the promised land, and established commandments for worship in general.
Among the commandments was the preparation of an oil called oil of the holy aation, it was a specific preparation that had a specific formula dictated by God to Moses and in no way was it just olive oil or olive oil, it was also a formula that could not be The oil of the aortion had a specific purpose and was to sanctify the elements of worship , consecrate them completely to God, so that anyone who touched any of the consecrated objects would become holy (towards 29), but there was a prohibition: the oil of the anointing could not be applied to anyone’s body under any circumstances and only priests could be anointed with oil (About 32:33).
2. A unation of people
2. 1 A combination of kings? The kings were anointed as liberators of the people of Israel and to rule the people as their shepherd:?Tomorrow at this hour I will send you a man from the land of Benjamin, whom you will anoint as captain of my people of Israel, and deliver my people from the hand of the Philistines; because I looked at my people; because your crying has come to me. ?(1 Samuel 9:16)
2. 2 A unation of priests? God asked Moses to aogify priests to consecrate and recognize them as separate people to serve God through the priesthood. The priests judged the differences between people, made atonement, sanctified the people before God, heard confessions of sins, were the bond between the people and GOD.
2. 3 To anoint the prophets? The prophetic office was established by the act of ation: “The spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; for the Lord anointed me to announce the good news to the sweets; He sent me to restore the contrites of heart, to proclaim freedom to the captives and to open the prison to the prisoners; To proclaim the pleasant year of the Lord and the day of our God’s vengeance; to comfort all the sad; Order the sad ones of Zion to be given glory instead of ashes, oil of joy rather than sadness, garments of praise rather than anguished spirit; that they may be called trees of righteousness, plantations of the Lord, that he may be glorified. (Isaiah 61:1-3)
There is no clear description in the scriptures of how or what the ritual of the ation of the prophets would be, but this fact is reasonably established by isaiah’s aforementioned text.
In view of these earlier texts, we conclude that Christ made these 3 aortions of Prophet, King and Priest: Prophet: proclaiming the Good News, King: as Liberator of the people and King of the universe, and Priest: establishing the bond between the people and God.
3. TYPES OF OIL
There are certain types of oil that are used in the Bible for various purposes, such as:
3. 1 Pommade? Fat mixed with special fragrances that give it very desirable characteristics, was used to anoint the feet of the guests, symbolizing the joy of the arrival of this guest and welcoming him:
“And it was Mary who had anointed the Lord with ointment, and had wiped her feet with her hair, of which Brother Lazarus was sick (John 11:2).
Also as it has been used in personal body care, as it is an excellent moisturizer:
“At that moment, I, Daniel, was sad for three weeks; I did not eat appetizing delicacy, no meat or wine entered my mouth, nor did I anoint with ointment, until three weeks were fulfilled (Daniel 10: 2- 3)
So wash, join, put on your dresses and descend to the threshing; but don’t get to know the man until he’s finished eating and drinking. (Ruth 3: 3)
3. 2 Healing oils? The oil has healing powers, allowing wounds to soften and purify them. When mixed with certain herbs, the oil can provide powerful medications for various ailments. It’s no wonder that doctors in Israel have known about these herbs since ancient times and how to use them. in the process of healing patients.
“From the plant of the foot to the head, there is nothing healthy, but wounds, swellings, and rotten wounds that are not crushed, bandaged, or softened with oil” (Isaiah 1:6).
And when he approached, he healed his wounds, pouring oil and wine upon them; and, putting him on his horse, took him to an inn and looked after him; (Luke 10:34)
3. 3 Funeral Pommade? This ointment was used to prepare the body for burial, as part of a embalming process:
“Now, when she spilled this ointment into my body, she did so by preparing me for my funeral (Matthew 26:12).
And the women who had come with him from Galilee also went to see the tomb and how his body had been deposited; and when they returned, they prepared aromatic spices and ointments; and on Saturday they rested, according to the command. ?(Luke 23:55-56)
Before we go any further, I want to show a distinction made by the New Testament compared to him?Unation that will help us a lot. In other words, there are two Greek terms for “ation”:
?aleipho (218 ??????) of 1 (as junction particle) and base of 3045; TDNT – TM – 1: 229. 37; Ⅴ
1) a unation
Synonyms see entry 5805
?chrio (5548 ????) probably similar to 5530 by the idea of contact; TDNT?9: 493,1322; Ⅴ
1) a unation
1a) consecrate Jesus to the mesianic office and grant him the necessary powers for his ministry
1b) Covering Christians with the gifts of the Holy Spirit
Synonyms see entry 5805
? 5805? Synonym of
218? is the common and banal word for anointing
5548? it is the sacred and religious word for anointing [2]
There is also the term chrisma, but it comes from the term chrio:
? crisma (5545 ??????) 5548; TDNT? 9: 493,1322; n n n
1) Anything greased, ointment, usually prepared by the Hebrews with aromatic herbs and oil.
The a unation was the inaugural ceremony of the priests [2]
In other words, there is a common and banal term (aleipho) for unince and a sacred and religious term (chrio and chrisma). By banal, it does not mean guilty, but banal and habitual, in terms of medicinal, aesthetic or funeral purposes.
That said, let’s consider four questions about the use of oil:
But only the laying on of hands, regarded by the author of Hebrews as “rudiments of the doctrine of Christ” (Hebrews 6: 1. 2).
And this opinion pleased the whole multitude, and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit, and Philip, and Prokoro, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmens and Nicholas, proselytizing antioch; And they presented them to the Apostles, and they prayed, lay their hands upon them (Acts 6:5-6).
And as they served the Lord and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, “Leave me barnabas and Saul in the work to which I have called them. ” Then, fasting and praying, and putting their hands on them, they were fired. (Acts 13: 2-3)
Do not rush your hands on anyone [in ministry], and do not share the sins of others; keep it pure?(1 Timothy 5: 22)
It is debatable that this was done in the Old Testament and we will have to agree, yet we are in the New Covenant and priestly laws are no longer in force, for we have a new priest, according to the order of Melchizedek not Aaron (Hebrews 7:11). Oil ainting in ancient times was a symbol of our hope (Romans 15:4) in two ways
(i) Christ was anointed by the Father as our Prophet-Priest King of the Holy Spirit and virtue.
You loved justice and abhorred wickedness; Therefore, God, your God, anointed you [chrio] with oil of joy more than your companions (Hebrews 1:9).
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, for He anointed me [chrio] to evangelize the poor; sent me to heal broken hearts (Luke 4:18)
For truly against your holy Son Jesus, whom he agiste [Crío], not only Herod, but Pontius Pilate, met the Gentiles and people of Israel; (Acts 4:27)
How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and virtue; that he would do good and heal all the oppressed of the devil, for God was with him (Acts 10:38).
That’s a source of great joy! God anointed His Son to deliver us. The ation of the Son is directly related to our Salvation! We have the One who was anointed directly by God the Father as King, Prophet, and Priest.
(ii) Christ and the Father, in divine grace, made us partake of the ation of Christ by also giving us the Spirit and making us kings and priests before him.
But what confirms to us with you in Christ, and what anointed us, is God, who also sealed us and gave us the garment of the Spirit in our hearts (2 Corinthians 1:21. 22).
“And he made us kings and priests for God and his Father; glory and power for him for ever and ever. Amen” (Revelation 1:6).
We do not need any anointing on the part of men, because we have already been anointed with God, which brings us to the next point.
As we saw earlier, the symbology of the oil and spirit of the Old Testament was fulfilled in Christ and in us when we received the same thing. We do not need to be anointed with oil, because the true Oil, the Spirit, has been poured out upon us.
We see in the baptism reports of the Holy Ghost only the use of the laying on of hands:
“Then they lay their hands upon them, and received the Holy Ghost (Acts 8:17).
And when Paul laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost descended upon them; and spoke languages and prophesied. ?(Acts 19:6)
Another text that can help us in this regard is 1 John 2:20. 27
And you have the ation [chrisma] of the Saint, and you know everything. But as her ation [chrisma] teaches you all things, and it is true, and it is not a lie, as she taught you, so you will stay there (1 John 2:20. 27)
This text shows that we, every born-again Christian, today have the ation of the Holy Spirit, because they have already received it in the past. It should be remembered that the term used for aition is crisma (the ation was the inaugural ceremony of priests) that comes from chrio, which is the sacred and religious term for ation.
The consequence of this truth is that we must not anoint anyone to “allow ministry” because every Christian already has the anointing, which is the Spirit, who allows it.
There are two episodes in the New Testament that connect disease, healing, ation, and oil, and both use aleipho, the common sense term.
And they persecuted many demons, and healed many sick with oil, and healed them (Mark 6:13).
Is there anyone among you who’s sick? Call the elders of the Church and pray for him, agonating him with oil in the name of the Lord; And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall resurrect him; and if you have committed sins, you will be forgiven (James 5:14. 15).
The term appears 8 times in the New Testament (Matthew 6:17; Mark 6:13; 16: 1; Luke 7: 38. 46; John 11: 2; 12:13; James 6:14). Read the texts if you want to try common use.
This shows that Mark and Tiago’s intention was not a religious or miraculous aeration, but the medical connotation explained in The Pr’s article. Eduardo Dantas. Putting the verses in context for today would be something like: “They gave medicine and prayed in faith and God healed the sick. “This means that James says that the old man must deal not only with spiritual health or spiritual problems, but also with physical health; and who should do the ‘prayer of faith’.
Despite the term? To give another article, I would like to make a brief reflection on the subject.
a) What is faith
One of the mistakes people make today is not knowing what faith is; faith is placed in faith and not in faith in God; faith is trusting in God, in his power and will, not in our own ability to trust in God; to pray in faith is not to pray with power, it is to pray with confidence in the power of God. Note that James speaks of the prophet Elijah, who “was a man subject to the same passions as us”. In other words, the goal is not our ability, but in God’s ability.
b) Oils, medicines and faith
Given what faith really means, the danger of concentrating on your faith, oil, or medicine is great. When you do this (put more confidence in the way you prayed, or whether or not you anointed oil, or even took medication or not that trust in God), you commit idolatry.
c) Have faith
Finally, I do not want to discourage prayer for the sick, but I want to encourage according to the truth. I don’t want you to think, “Now all that’s left is to give medicine and tell God that your will is done. “No! When someone is sick, he heals the person and prays that God will heal them, not trusting in medicine or his ability, but in the God of Elijah (our God) that has stopped raining for 3 years.
As Professor Eduardo Dantas rightly pointed out, only objects related to the temple were anointed and dedicated to the Lord, this anointing was such a series that it was not used to anoint any household object, so I want to present three reasons why you should not Anoid murdering objects in your home or church:
1) As stated above, we are no longer under the ceremonial law of the Old Testament. It was abolished in the new priesthood of Christ. Therefore, precepts such as temple atheation are invalid and practicing them is denying Christ’s accomplishments.
2) We no longer have temples in the Old Testament mold. Your local church is not a temple. Your local church is a building where God’s temples are located. You are the temple of God, inhabited by Him, by the Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19). God does not live in temples made by men; (Acts 17:24).
3) Therefore, if there is anything to anoint or consecrate, it is you, Christian, and you will not do that. God has already done so, as we saw before, through the ation of the Spirit.
This means you don’t have to clean your car. He is already of God, both because the whole earth belongs to him and because you are just a servant and administrator of what God has put in your hands, do not deceive yourself into thinking that you can dedicate some objects to God and others you cannot. . Nothing is yours and all you have, He gave it to you for the sole purpose of excelling the Glory of God (and this includes the glass where you drink the juice) Your commitment to use any object for the glory of God has already been made when you have converted, renewed it, and live it intensely.
I would like to summarize in detail what has been said above to promote understanding:
1) We can observe in the scriptures two uses of the term unicia: ordinary and religious.
a) Religious significance
? In the Old Testament we have the symbolism of the aition of kings, priests and prophets and the temple.
? In the New Testament, this symbolism was fulfilled in Christ in two ways:
(i) Our King-Prophet-Priest of Spirit and righteousness was anointed by God the Father.
(ii) We have been anointed by God with the Spirit as kings and priests, giving us power for the Christian life; and we become temples of God through His Spirit.
? Therefore, we should not take God’s place and anoint or consecrate someone for ministry or as a symbol of the baptism of the Holy Ghost.
? Nor should we consecrate what God has already reserved for himself, everything of ours is already his, and we are already committed when we convert to use it for the glory of God.
b) Common sense
? In both wills we see the oil used for medicinal, aesthetic and funeral purposes.
? It is in this sense that Tiago and Marcos recommend anointing people, that is, to treat their diseases, that it would currently be like giving medication to the patient.
? Therefore, we must not anoint the sick in the hope that this anointing will heal him, but we must heal him and pray to God to heal in faith, not by relying on oils and medicines or our ability, but on God’s capacity and power.
In light of the above, I would like you to reconsider the verses in Psalm 105: 15 and 1 Chronicles 16:22 that say, “Don’t touch my anointed one. “I’d like to make three observations.
1) The verses are true. God warns us against anyone who touches His anointed; don’t despise him because some have abused him.
2) Christ is the Anointed One of God. So the first application of the verse is: “In fact, the Son of Man goes, as it is written, but to thee of this man for whom the Son of Man is delivered [spit, strike, delivered, crucified]!It would be good if such a man was not born (Mark 14:21).
3) Every Christian (not just a chosen few) is anointed by God (1 John 2:20. 27), so woe to those who martyr, abuse or mock Christians! They will shout, “Until, O true and holy Dominant, do ye not judge and avenge our blood upon those who live on earth?”(Revelation 6:10) and God in due course will surely respond.
Therefore, do not speak ill of your brother and do not be afraid to denounce the false prophets who use these verses to defend his sin.
