Shaking the balaio

Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring your care; his own evil is enough every day (Mt 6:34).

There was a time in my life when I worked on a coffee farm as a crop logger, my job was to measure the coffee harvested by each collector, the payment was made according to the production of each.

The measurement was carried out in large baskets (bamboo baskets) with a capacity of about 50 liters.

To make the measurement always accurate, after pouring the coffee into the can until filling it, it stirred slightly, then the coffee beans were housed and a little more coffee could be put in the can.

The workers didn’t like it very much, but that was the rule, it was the agreement before the harvest.

In the last days I began to think about our modern way of life and, I do not know why the memory of the broom came to mind, I dedicated myself to meditating on what, for me, would be a parable of the Balaio. Coffee.

In modern society we have much to do, haste, stress, lack of time, few hours of sleep, little time with children, with husband or wife, lack of a good conversation about comforts for a few hours. with the people we love or a timeless dinner to finish.

Over the years, I’ve set aside all these good things. We get sick, we go to the doctor and he says, “You have to slow down, you have to stop doing certain things. “

But how to stop? I need to guarantee my children’s education, I need to invest in my career in the company, I need that, I need that. There’s no stopping him.

But then, suddenly, a pandemic invades the world, approaching our lives like a black cloud that covers the sky.

Health agencies recommend social isolation, factories take group vacations, schools suspend classes, shops and restaurants close, and churches suspend meetings.

So now, overnight, we have to stay home

No more “stop like”. Continuing with the old hurry now is no longer an option. We have no choice. We have to stop, we have to stay home.

Then we get up in the morning and, since we can’t get out, we wait for the boys to wake up, we do our home service, we take our coffee quietly, all at the table, without haste.

Then everyone will take care of their tasks, we will do our work at home, the children will take the time to study, we call our parents, friends and brothers of the Church to know how they are doing.

By returning the maid, we divide household chores to organize the house.

What happened?

It happened that suddenly this pandemic shook our balance, and then we realized that there was actually room in our lives for other things.

This pandemic has certainly had a great negative impact on humanity, in fact it is a catastrophe, it is a catastrophe, the consequences will last many years.

But it is in the midst of the difficulties we learn, it is in tribulation that we grow more solidly.

We don’t want to stop, and if we don’t stop, we can’t reason, and if we don’t reason, we can’t see the gaps along the way.

And then an event, of which Only God was aware, and over which he has total control, impacts our lives like never before.

Enjoy these times of “slowdown” – meditate, prayerfully reconsider whether the life we have lived is the life God has planned for us.

One day, this crisis will pass and life will return to normal. When that time comes, can we go back to business differently?

May we learn to ponder our activities, placing them in the correct order of magnitude, in the face of the values that should guide the lives of believers.

May these times teach us to live life in abundance.
