Verse of the day: If leprosy has covered all its flesh, it will declare that it has its own stain (Leviticus 13:13).
This standard seems strange, but it contained wisdom, since the expulsion of disease showed that the constitution of man was healthy. On this day, it would be good for us to see the characteristic teaching of such an unusual rule. We are also lepers and can read the laws regarding the leper as they apply to us. When a man sees himself as a totally lost and ruined sinner, completely covered with the desecration of sin; when he renounces all self-righteousness and pleads guilty before the Lord, then he is cleansed by the blood of Christ and the grace of God. Hidden, unacknowledged, and unacknowledged iniquity is true leprosy; but when sin is seen and recognized, it receives its death blow, and the Lord looks with mercy on the soul afflicted by sin. Nothing is more deadly than complacency, nor more optimistic than contrition. We have to admit that we are only sinners because no confession below corresponds to the whole truth. If the Spirit of God is working in us, convicting us of sin, there will be no difficulty in making this recognition. It will flow spontaneously from our lips. Lamented and confessed sin, however grave and infamous it may be, will never prevent a man from approaching the Lord Jesus. Anyone who comes to Jesus will not cast you out in any way (see John 6. 37). Though dishonest like the thief, immoral like the sinner who anointed the feet of Jesus, furious like Saul of Tarsus, cruel like Manasseh, or rebellious like the prodigal son, the great heart of love will look to the man who feels he does not have in himself . all righteousness and will declare you pure, when you trust Jesus crucified. O sinful and abandoned sinner, come to Jesus. Come needy, come guilty, come nasty and naked. You can’t be too dirty; come as you are.
