September 22? CHARLES SPURGEON Daily Devotion

Verse of the day: Rejoice in Israel in its Creator (Psalm 149. 2).

Believing, rejoice in heart, but make sure that the source of your joy is the Lord. You have many reasons to rejoice in your God, and with David you can sing: “God?My great joy?” (Psalm 43. 4). Rejoice because the Lord reigns, for the Lord is King!Rejoice that he sits on the throne and governs all things!Every attribute of God must become a new ray on the specter of our rejoicing.

  • Recognizing that it is wise should make us happy.
  • As we consider our own folly.
  • Recognizing that he is powerful should make us rejoice as we tremble in our own weakness.
  • Recognizing that He is Eternal should always be a cause for rejoicing.
  • When we know that we are dry as grass.
  • Recognizing that He is unchanging should always lead us to sing praises.
  • Because we are changing all the time.
  • Knowing that he is full of grace.
  • That grace overflows.
  • And that this grace that he has given us; that it is up to us to purify.
  • Preserve.
  • Sanctify.
  • Perfect.
  • And lead ourselves to glory; all of this should make us happy in it.
  • This joy in God is like a deep river.
  • We have only reached your margins.
  • We know little about its own sources.
  • Still and heavenly.
  • However.
  • The depth is greater and the current more impetuous in its rejoicing.
  • The believer realizes that he can rejoice not only in who God is.
  • But also in all that he has done in the past.
  • The Psalms show us that God’s people in the past were inclined to think hard about God’s actions and to have a song about each of those actions.
  • So let the people of God recite the acts of the Lord today! Can you speak of your wonders and sing to the Lord.
  • Because you triumphed gloriously? (Exodus 15: 1).
  • They should never stop singing.
  • Because just as the Lord’s mercies are new to them every morning.
  • So too their rejoicing in the Lord’s good works.
  • In providence and grace.
  • Should be manifested in continual thanksgiving.
  • Rejoice.
  • Children of Zion.
  • And rejoice in the Lord your God.
