There’s nothing like a pandemic to slow us down and get back to what matters most.
I thought about writing about God’s sovereignty, this attribute makes us have a different view of how God works and what our action should look like and, coincidentally, it is the same attribute that allows us to calm down amid the chaos of the coronavirus.
- Questions like “what if?” begin to appear in our minds: “What if I lose my job?”What if I stop selling?” What if I don’t have a vacation?”And so on.
- They’re endless.
Clearly, this is already a reality for traders who by government decree have had to lower the doors of their establishment, and it is also a reality for those who are micro-entrepreneurs, professionals, freelancers.
The questions: What if??? are multiplying in this scenario, if I continue to write about all possibilities, it will become a book, so I ask you a question: where do your income come from: salary, pro-work, pastoral meetings, missionary offers, rents, stock market gains? It’s not yours. His income, his livelihood, everything comes from the Lord, who made the heavens and the earth and who possesses gold and silver. Laban clearly saw that everything Abraham possessed came from the Lord, from sheep to servants:
The Lord has blessed my lord greatly, and he has grown; He gave him sheep and oxen, silver and gold, servants and servants, camels and donkeys. (Genesis 24. 35)
And the same is true of us today: from occupational health, from talent to our heritage, God distributes according to his designs, his grace, his mercy, his justice and his sovereignty. It is not for us to question but to thank what the Lord is doing.
Then it will be in a pandemic era
It is up to us not to worry about anything, as written in Philippians 4. 6-7. I don’t think so. Under no circumstances should our hearts be afraid.
We can think of practical savings solutions, rething how we manage the money the Lord entrusts to us to be good administrators; that’s part of our responsibility.
We can learn something that can help our intellectual development, our work, and our faith. Use study platforms and good books.
We can (and should) look aside and help our family, friends, and brothers in the faith in need, as good administrators of God’s multiple grace (1P. 4. 10).
There’s so much we can do (I’ll talk about practical issues later). But? We must be calm and know that He is God, our refuge, and our strength, a very present help in tribulations (Psalm 46).
