In this conversation, with author Gloria Furman, we had some instructions on how to be well stocked and educated to write Christian texts, nothing different from what the word of God tells us: the mouth speaks of what the heart is full of, in this case we write what we have learned in our readings.
Renata Gandolfo: Today we are here with a special guest of Gloria Furman who has published some books by Fiel Editor, here are some of her books in Portuguese, and I would like to ask glory how you began your ministry of writing. that in last year’s Gospel Coalition, you did a writing workshop, I wanted you to talk a little bit about how we can improve our writing.
Gloria Furman: Big question
Personally, I realize that if I don’t read enough, I have nothing to write, so what I write is directly related to what I get when I read the Bible and other good theological books, when I realize that my life is so busy and busy that I can’t sit down and read a lot of books, I have nothing to say , because all I write is the result of what God teaches me through His Word and other good books.
That’s why I always tell those who want to become writers to read. If you want to write, you have to read. And read first. Do not write first, and then check if all is well, if this is in accordance with the scriptures. First, the scriptures, then you write.
I also say that you surround yourser with many good books. We have so little time, so little time. You don’t have to read everything. Read only the right things about a topic. If you’re looking for a topic, read respected books. Ask for recommendations, ask your pastor. ” If you’re investigating this, what should I read?Talk to people you trust, rather than just searching on Google. What are you really going to be able to find if you have so little time and want to research a topic so you can write?
In this workshop, I encouraged women to write with Christ, the person of Jesus, considering the way it is presented in the scriptures, because sometimes we think, “I like it here, so I’m going to take this and I’m going to turn it into something huge and I’m going to neglect and forget everything else. “But as you write, as you write about the gospel, think of Christ and ponder how he is presented in Isaiah and how he is presented in Daniel What do you see him saying and doing in Matthew? How does Paul encourage churches in Ephesians? Look at the apocalypse and all these statements? What Jesus is doing in Revelation. Then I realize that I have a better perception when I see more dimensions of the person of Christ.
I also encourage people: after looking at Christ, think of his readers, is it a problem to have only one type of person in mind and write only for that type of person? No problem, but know that your book can be disseminated. if someone from another culture comes to you, how will they be encouraged?Or she’ll think, “Oh, she doesn’t write for me, because she only writes for the rich who have problems that the rich have. “Or: “Do you only write for people who only have many children or only for women who work in a corporate office?”. So think about how your writings can be applied to people anywhere. What if a woman finds it on the Internet and comes from another continent? Can you animate yourself in the gospel by reading what you have written?Or can’t she, because of her cultural purpose, understand the gospel, because you thought only of people who look like you and who speak like you??
Then, first, look at Christ, then look at the readers. See who you’re writing to The workshop focused specifically on these two things.
Renata Gandolfo: Thank you very much. Then, in order for us to write, we must read a lot and seek Christ in all the scriptures. What she tells us is an encouragement for us to know the whole Bible, not just the parts we love the most, and seek Christ.
We live in a time when feminism has redefined the meaning of femininity. Even in our churches, women have absorbed the ideas of this movement ignoring its origin and its consequences. You may not identify as a feminist, but there are likely to be aspects of your femininity that have been negatively affected by it.
In the context of cultural confusion that permeates our churches, the Ministry of Faith invites Christian women from all over Brazil to participate in the III Conference of Faithful Women, which will take place from August 24 to 26, 2018, at the Hotel Majestic, in The City of Lindia. Let’s examine what God’s Word teaches about womanhood and the delicate balance between biblical authority, historical perspective, and cultural influence in relation to the role of women in the home, work, and church.
Will we have the presence of the speakers Sillas Campos, Carolyn McCulley and Norma Braga to reflect together on the renewed theme?Female faith in a feminist world (Rom 12,2). Our goal is for local churches to save the truths of biblical femininity in order to nurture and empower women to play the important role the Lord has assigned them in building healthy families and churches.
Come and join us!
