[PVE] What is your opinion on the text of Hebrews 6: 4-6?(1)

“For it is impossible for those who were ever enlightened, have tasted the heavenly gift, and become participants of the Holy Ghost. (5) And they have liked the good word of God, and the virtues of the future century, (6) And they withdrew, shall be renewed for repentance; why do they crucify the Son of God again and expose him to the oprobrium. ?(Hebrews 6: 4-6 ACF [1])

The passage that now occupies our attention is one of the most serious in the letter to the Hebrews, even compared to any other in the New Testament. Probably few regenerated souls read it thoughtfully, unaffected by fear and trembling. Reckless teachers [2] have often been prompted to wake up in their conscience as soon as they hear their terrifying language. The passage speaks of a very privileged class of people, singularly favored, but who, instead of having perfected their opportunities, sadly perverted them; those who brought shame and reproach to the cause of Christ; and that they are in such a desperate state that it is “impossible for them to be renewed for repentance. ” It would be good for each of us to sincerely draw our hearts to God, begging him to spare us such a shipwreck in faith. [3] As most of our readers probably know, the verses before us have proven to be one of the fiercest theological battlefields of all time. It was at this time that the hottest battles between Calvinists and Arminians took place. Those who believe that it is possible for a true Christian to commit sin and apostate to fall from grace and be lost forever, confidently appealed to these verses to test their theory. It is very disturbing, as their theory has made them so prejudiced that they are unable to impartially examine and carefully weigh its various terms. Rather, with their minds so polarized by their views on apostasy, they took it for granted that this passage describes a true child of God, who, turning his back completely on Christ, finally perished. But does the Scripture command us to examine everything? (I Th. 5:21), and involves more than a cursory, superficial investigation of what is certainly a difficult passage.

  • If.
  • On the one hand.
  • The Arminians have always been willing to read.
  • In this passage.
  • Their non-biblical dogmas of a Christian apostasy.
  • It must be admitted that many Calvinists have not successfully attacked and interpreted the most difficult points of these verses.
  • They are right that the scriptures teach in an angry and unequivocal way the divine preservation and human perseverance of the saints.
  • And have also wisely presented that the Word of God cannot and cannot be countered What if our Lord decided that their sheep would never perish?(John 10:28).
  • Then Hebrews 6 certainly does not teach that some will perish.
  • If through the Apostle Paul.
  • The Holy Spirit assures us that nothing can separate the child from the love of his Father (Romans 8:35-39).
  • Then.
  • Without a doubt.
  • The passage before us now declares nothing.
  • It may not always be easy to discover the perfect coherence of one scripture with another.
  • But we must still firmly adhere to the harmony and integrity inherent in G the truth of od.

The first difficulty with our passage is to be sure of the kind of people represented there. Does the Holy Spirit describe regenerated or un regenerated souls here? The next step is to determine what “and relapse” means. Finally, what is referred to as “and relapse”. it is impossible for them to renew themselves to repent. ” In anticipation of our display, we are fully convinced that “relapse here means a deliberate, complete and definitive rejection of Christ, a sin for which there is no forgiveness. So we understand that too? Renewal again for repentance denounces that his condition and case are beyond any hope of healing; therefore, Calvinists have generally stated that this passage only concerns converts, but there are two insurmountable objections to this: first, the simple uninverted have nothing to “fold up”; second, those who have not been reversed have never been “renewed” for repentance.

In addition to the controversy caused by these verses, some have transformed them through abuse:

“The misinterpretation of this passage too, I believe, in many cases, has created extreme mental anguish for two categories of people:?To the teachers who, after falling into some grave sin, awoke to alarming reflections; and true Christians, when they fall before the power of a mental illness, immerse themselves in a state of spiritual weakness, or when they are led to enormous transgressions of divine law, becoming guilty like David and Peter And has this created only insurmountable obstacles in the way of both?Who take refuge in the hope they have proposed [4]?In the Gospel, all of this makes it even more necessary for us to carefully consider the meaning of this passage. When well understood, it does not admit false conclusions, that have been drawn from it, but it will be like any other part of inspired scriptures: useful for teaching, writing, correcting, and instructing in justice; [5]?well adapted to produce care, in no way designed to cause despair ?( Dr. J. Brown).

Condition of the soul Before attempting to elucidating the above-mentioned difficulties, and preparing the way for our ex display of these verses, the content of which has so violently embarrassed many, let us remember, once again, the state of the soul in which these Hebrew Christians had fallen: had they become “neglected to hear?”(Hebrews 5:11), “Have you not been experienced in the word of righteousness?(Hebrews 5:13), and could not chew solid foods? (Hebrews 5:14). This condition was riddled with the most dangerous consequences:

“The Hebrews had become indifferent, careless, and inert; the Gospel, once seen with love and loved by them, had become in bad taste and vague; the persecutions and conflicts of their compatriots became a painful burden, under which they groaned and under which they did not. enjoy communion with the Lord Jesus, characterized them: Darkness, doubt, sadness, indecision and therefore a path in which the strength of Christ’s love was not manifested, if they remained in this state, what could have turned out more than apostasy?, if he continues, ends with rejection, apathy for dislike, disbelief in infidelity.

“Such was your danger. And if they succumbed to him, his condition would be desperate. There would be no gospel left to preach, no power to save and lift them. They had heard and heard the voice saying, “Come unto me, and I will relieve you. “They had professed to believe in the Lord, killed by sinners, and chose him as their Savior and Master. And now they forgot and left the Rock of their Salvation. If they continued deliberately and stubbornly in this situation, they would be in danger of repentance and final hardness of heart.

“The exhortation must be seen in relation to a particular circumstance of the Hebrews. After Israel’s rejection of the Messiah, the apostles had preached the gospel to the Jews, and the gifts and power of the Holy Spirit were manifested among them. The Hebrews had accepted the gospel of the once crucified and now glorified Redeemer, who sent the Spirit from heaven, a sign of his exaltation and a pledge of future inheritance. Entering then the “sphere of the manifestation of the new covenant”, whoever stubbornly abandons it, can only resort to this phase of Judaism that crucified the Lord Jesus. For them, there would be no alternative but to come to the full knowledge of the heavenly priesthood of Christ, accept the believer and praise through the Mediator in the heavenly sanctuary, or resort to the attitude, not of the godly Israelites before Pentecost. . , like John the Baptist and those who expected the promised redemption, not even on the condition of those for whom the Savior prayed? because they didn’t know what they were doing [7]; but in a state of conscious and obstinate enmity against Christ, and in the sin of rejecting him and leading him to public disgrace? (Adolph Saphir).

“The danger to which this spiritual inertia exposed the Hebrews was such that it justified the strong language of rebuke and rebuke. The apostasy of Christ was an easier and more natural step for a Jew than for a pagan believer, because the way was still open and inviting them, as men, to return to the associations they once carried with them, with an outward appearance of sanctification. in the name. of Jehovah, and which only the power of grace had allowed them to renounce. When the spiritual realities became inoperative in their souls, the visible image of what seemed remained, and there was a danger that they would surrender out of respect for their soul. If there were no habitual exercise of their spiritual senses, the power of discernment might not remain: they could call evil good and good good. The ignorance that arises from spiritual neglect begins its own punishment for the indifferent clumsiness of what were once clear minds, and robs the mind of its power to detect the cunning methods of the devil. It is only in the presence of God that the Christian can, in fact, express his spiritual energies. Abiding in Christ keeps us in that presence. No more unfortunate error can befall the believer than to separate, in the habits of his mind, the acquired knowledge of the living Christ. Faith dies quickly when it is separated from its object. Knowledge, however, is precious, but knowledge of God is something progressive (Col. 1:10), the end of which is not obtained from this side of glory (I Cor 8: 2). The ultimate experience of an advancing Christian is one of continuous initiation. With an ever-widening perspective, do you have a deeper and deeper perception of the grace in which you find yourself and in which you settle more and more through the word of justice?

“Clear and growing faith in heavenly things was needed to prevent Jewish Christians from declining. To return to Judaism was to abandon Christ, who had left his homes?(Mt 23:38). Would he fall into disgrace and place himself?not only under the common curse of the law, but also under the particular curse that had brought the guilt of Jesus’ blood upon the reproached and blind nation of his murderers?(A. Pridham).

It should be noted, however, that it is so easy, and the attraction is so real, for a pagan Christian to return to this world to which the Lord has called him, as for a Jewish Christian to return to Judaism. The exact proportion in which the Christian does not walk with God on a daily basis, the world also acquires power over his heart, mind and life, and continuity in worldlyness is heavy with the most direct and fatal consequences.

Why is it impossible for those who were ever enlightened ?, Etc. (verse 4). Here the Apostle continues the journey that began in Hebrews 5:11. The parentheses had two divisions: the first, in Hebrews 5: 11-14 is reprehensible; the second, in Hebrews 6: 1-20, is an exhortation. In Chapter 6, he exhorts the Hebrews to two duties: to advance the Christian march (verses 1-11); perseverance (verses 12-20). The first exhortation is proposed in verses 1 and 2 and is nuanced in verse 3. La reason to obey comes from the danger of apostasy (verses 4-6). The opening, why?in verse 4, he announces a connection close to our current passage with which he immediately precedes it. Outline a conclusion of what the Apostle had said in Hebrews 5:11-14. Does it amplify it? Yes? From verse 3, he shows a serious warning against his continuation in his present laziness, which shows a terrible contrast to the possibility of verse 3.

“The Apostle looks with dismay at the degeneration of the Hebrews; seems to see it as the danger of a complete, confirmed, stubborn and irretrievable apostasy of truth; He observes them on the edge of a cliff, and that is why he raises their voices, and vehemently, always loving honestly, does he warn them of such a terrifying evil?(Adolph Saphir).

Three things stand out as we approach our passage: the people we are talking to here, the sin they have committed, and the condemnation that has been announced to them. When considering the people he is addressing, it is of utmost importance to note that the apostle does not say: “we who were enlightened”, he does not even say “you”, on the contrary he says “those”. . In stark contrast to them, he said to the Hebrews: “But from you, beloved, do we expect better things?” [8]

Later, when the apostle comes to declare his hope and his conviction about these Hebrews that they are not like the ones he had described before, nor as if they were about to fall into perdition, and he did so for three reasons why they would differ of these. : 1 That they would have those things that “accompany salvation”; These are things from which salvation is inseparable. However, none of these things had been attributed to what he described here (verses 4-6); Therefore, if they acted in this way, would they not have been an argument and a proof of a contrary conclusion for the apostle: that they would not fall and perish like them? That is why he does not attribute anything to them here in the text that makes him particularly a “companion of salvation. ” 2. Do you describe them by theirs? Duties of obedience? and fruits of faith. Was? Work and love? In the name of God, verse 10. And that is why he also differentiates them from those in the text, as far as those he believed would perish eternally, which these fruits of saving faith and sincere love should not have. 3. He adds that, in preserving those mentioned here, the faithfulness of God is taken into account: “Why is it not unfair to forget God?” Because it was they who intended to interest them in the covenant of grace, considering that it is only in this way that there is a commitment of fidelity and justice from God to preserve men from apostasy and ruin, and in this way there is an equal relationship between all of us. achieved by the alliance. But for those who are in the text, it does not assume such a thing, and therefore does not announce that the justice or fidelity of God was in any way compromised for its preservation, but quite the opposite. (Dr. John Owen)

Is there little need to designate it as? Simple teachers described in verses 4, 5; they formed a class that had enjoyed great privileges, especially since it now accompanies the preaching of the gospel; those described here would have received five privileges, which contrast with the six situations listed in verses 1, 2, which belong to man in the flesh, under Judaism. Five is the number of grace, and the blessings mentioned here belong to Christian dispensation. They’re not true Christians, though. This follows from what is not said; note that they were not quoted as chosen by God, as those for whom Christ died, as those born in the Spirit; it is not said that they are justified, forgiven, accepted in the beloved. . Nor is there any mention of his faith, love, or obedience, although these are exactly the qualities that distinguish a true child from God.

First, they had been “enlightened. ” The sun of righteousness had shone, bringing healing into its wings [9], and, as Matthew 4:16 says, “The people, who were seated in darkness, saw a great light; And, for those sitting in the region and the shadow of death, the light rose. Unlike the heathen, whom Christ, in the days of his flesh, did not visit, those who came under the sound of his voice were wonderfully and gloriously enlightened.

The Greek word for “enlightened” here means “to receive light or knowledge through teaching. ” Therefore, it is translated The Seventy in Judges 13: 8, II Kings 12: 2, 17:27. The Apostle Paul uses it as a “manifestation” or “to bring to light” in 1 Corinthians 4: 5, II Timothy 1:10. Satan blinded the minds of unbelievers, “so that the light of the gospel may not shine upon them” ( II Co 4, 4), that is, to give the knowledge of it. So enlightened? Here, it means to be taught in the doctrine of the gospel, thus having a clear understanding. In the parallel passage in Hebrews 10:26, the same people would have “received the knowledge of the truth,” also confronted in 2 Peter 2: 20-21. However, it is only a natural knowledge of spiritual things, which one can acquire by listening from outside or by reading, just as one can become enlightened by doing a special study of one of the sciences. it is far from this transforming spiritual enlightenment (II Cor. 3: 18). An illustration of an unregenerate person who is “enlightened”, as here, is found in the case of Balaam, in Numbers 24: 4.

Secondly, did they? I tried the heavenly gift, try?It is necessary to have a personal experience, not a simple description.

“Tasting does not include eating, much less digesting and transforming what is savored into nutrition, because by discerning its nature through this act, it will be rejected, in fact, even if we like its taste and flavor in another consideration. ” Behold, therefore, those who have a certain degree of understanding and who have appreciated the revelation of grace, like the listeners on the stones [10], have received the Word with great joy (John Owen).

The? Try? Contrast with? Eat? From John 6: 50-56

Opinions are divided on whether the? Heavenly gift? it refers to the Lord Jesus or the person of the Holy Spirit. We may not be able to dogmatize this point. In fact, the difference is indistinct, because the Spirit is here to glorify Christ, as he came from the Father through Christ as a “Gift. ” of his ascension to his people. If the reference is to the Lord Jesus, John 3:16, 4: 1, etc. , it will be relevant references, if it is to the Holy Spirit, it will be Acts 2:38, 8:20, Acts 10:45, Acts 11:17. Personally, we lean towards the latter. This divine gift is called here “heavenly”. because of “heaven”, and what leads to heaven, unlike Judaism? face Acts 2: 2, 1 Peter 1:12. From that? Present? These apostates “tried” or had an experience comparable to Matthew 27:34 where? tried? it is the opposite of actually drinking. Those who stand out here were acquainted with the Gospel, both to acquire a great measure of its beatitudes and to greatly aggravate their sins and convictions. An illustration of this can be found in Matthew 13: 20-21.

Third, “they became participants of the Holy Ghost. “First, it must be demonstrated that the Greek word for “participants”: here is a different word from that used in Colossses 1:12 and II Peter 1:4, where it is true. Christians are in sight. The word here simply means “partners,” referring to something external rather than internal. It should be noted that this element is placed in the middle of five, and that is because it describes the guiding principle of the other four. , all of which are in force. (John 3:6), let alone their bodies were His temple? (I Co. 6: 19). Nor do we believe that these verses teach that the Holy Ghost has never acted in them, because otherwise Philippians 1:6 would have contracted. This means that they had shared the benefits of their operations and supernatural manifestations: ??Was the place moving? (Acts 4:31) illustrates this. Here’s Dr. J. Brown:

“It is very likely that the inspired writer will refer mainly to the miraculous gifts and operations of the Holy Ghost by which the first dispensation of Christianity was administered. These gifts were by no means reserved for those who were ” transformed by the renewal of their understanding. “The words of our Lord in Matthew 7:22-23 and paul’s in 1 Corinthians 13:1-2 seem to announce that the maintenance of these unso refreshed men was not very unusual at the time, in no way do they clearly show that their retention and an un regenerated state are somehow incompatible.

Fourth, “and you liked the good word of God. “

By this expression I mean God’s promise to the Messiah, the essence and substance of everything. It should be noted that Jeremiah refers to this promise by distinction as “the right word?”(Jr 33:14). This “Good Word of God” is to experience the fact that God was faithful to His promise: to enjoy, as much as an unsasured man can enjoy it, the blessings and benefits that flow from the fulfillment of that promise. Word of God, ” it seems, simply to enjoy the benefits of the new dispensation (Dr. J. Brown).

An additional confirmation that the Apostle refers here to this fact, that these apostates had witnessed the fulfillment of God’s promise is obtained by comparing it to Jeremiah 29:10:?I will visit you in Babylon and keep my good word for you, returning you to this place.

Notice how carefully the Apostle always keeps the word “try,” the best way to allow us to identify them. Can’t you tell Jeremiah, finding your words, I ate them?(Jr 15:16).

“It is as if I am still saying, “I have not spoken of those who have been fed; but of those who have only tried it, so much so that they should have wanted it as “rational and non-counterfeit milk”?and grow through it?. (Dr. John Owen)

An impressive example of someone you just tried? The Good Word of God is found in Mark 6:20: “For Herod feared John, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man; and kept him safe, and did many things, paying attention to him and listening to him well.

Fifth, “and the virtues of the future century”, or “future era”. The reference here is to the new dispensation that was predicted by the Messiah of Israel according to the Old Testament predictions. This corresponds to the? The last days? Hebrews 1: 1, and does it contrast with the past tense? or the mosaic economy. His Messiah was none other than him? Strong god? (Isaiah 9: 6), and wonderful and glorious, wonderful and unique, were his miraculous works. Between these powers? these apostates had “tasted” or experienced. They had been personal witnesses of the miracles of Christ, and also of the wonders that followed his ascension, when there were such glorious manifestations of the Spirit. Therefore, they were “unforgivable. ” Compelling and conclusive evidence had been presented to them, but there was no sensible faith in their hearts. A correct example of this can be found in John 11: 47-48.

“And relapse. ” The Greek word here is very strong and emphatic, even stronger than the one used in Matthew 7:27, when it says of the house built on sand: “And his fall was great. ” It is a total fall, a total abandonment of Christianity that stands out here. Is a? Turn your back? determined to the revealed truth of God, a total rejection of the gospel. Is a? Shipwreck in faith? (I Tim. 1:19). This terrible sin is not committed by a mere nominal teacher, as he has nothing to really lean on except an empty name. The class described here is that of those who have had an enlightened mind, an agitated conscience, their affections displaced to a considerable degree, and again those who have never returned from death to life. Neither are the apostate Christians studied here. It is not simply “falling into sin” of this or that sin. The biggest? Sin? what a regenerate man can possibly commit is a personal denial of Christ: Peter was guilty of this, and he was still “renewed for repentance. ” It is a total renunciation of all the distinctive truths and principles of Christianity, and it is not secretly, but openly, that constitutes apostasy.

“And he recayed. ” This is not a fair translation. [12] It was said that the Apostle here did not claim that such persons would “fall” or “relapse,” but that if they fell, a hypothesis that could never be performed, then the consequence would be that they would not. be “renewed for repentance. ” The translated words literally are: “And apostasy” or “Are you still apostasy. “The Apostle obviously announces that these people can, and that these people, in fact, have “fallen. “”we clearly understand what is commonly called apostasy. This is not an occasional decrease in actual sin, however severe and aggravated; nor by renounting certain principles of Christianity, even if they are of considerable importance; But in an open, total, determined renunciation of all the constituent principles of Christianity, and a return to a false religion, such as that of unbelieving or pagan Jews, or to open infidelity and open irreligibility?(Dr. J. Brown).

“Is it impossible for those who? They resented, being renewed for repentance? Here four questions require an answer. What does “renewed” mean for repentance”?What do you mean, renewed again for repentance? Because this experience is “impossible” who is ‘impossible’?

Repentance means a change of heart: Matthew 21:29 and Romans 11:29 establish this; it is more than a mental action, with consciousness also being active, which leads to contrition and self-condition (Job 42:6). , is simply a work of nature, in the son of God, is forged by the Holy Spirit. The second is evangelical, being one of the things that “accompany salvation”. The first is not so, being the “sadness of the world, ” who?Death of acts? (II Co. 7: 10) . Such repentance or remorse has its most impressive example in the case of Judas: Matthew 27:3-5, such was the repentance of these apostates. The Greek verb for ”renew” here, this does not happen anywhere else in the New Testament. Restore? It would have been better, because it is the same word used in the Seventy, for a Hebrew verb that means renewing in the sense of restoring: Psalm 103:5; Psalm 104: 30; Lamentations 5: 21 Joseph applied it to the renewal of the Temple!

But what does it mean to “renew for repentance”?

? Be be? Renovated? it is a figurative expression that denotes a change, a great change and a change for the better. Will it be renewed? just as changing a person’s thinking is important for a meaningful and beneficial change of mind, character and service. And such a change, people claim to have been experienced in an earlier period. Once they were in a state of ignorance about the doctrines and proofs of Christianity, and they had been “enlightened. ” In other times, they had not known the excellence and beauty of Christian truth and were created to “taste the gifts of heaven. ” Once they confused the prophecies about the Messiah, and did not realize their fulfillment and, of course, they were oblivious to this powerful influence that the revelation of the New Testament had; and were these people created to see this? it had happened, and the participants of the external privileges had been made and were subject to the particular energies of a new order of things. His gaze, his feelings, and his circumstances had materially changed. What is the difference between an ignorant and intolerant Jew and the person described in the previous passage? From that he had transformed into another man. However, he had not become, in the apostle’s sense, a “new creature. ” Hasn’t your mind changed so much to sincerely believe? The truth as it is in Jesus [13]? But even so, a great and how far has it come, has there been a radical change? (Dr. J. Brown).

But is it impossible to renew for repentance? Those who have completely abandoned Christian revelation. Some things are impossible? As for god’s nature, how he cannot lie or forgive sins without sanctification in his righteousness. Other things that are possible in God’s nature are impossible by his decrees or designs: See 1 Samuel 15:28-29. Other things are still possible, or impossible, considering the rule or order of all things established by God, for example, there can be no faith without hearing the Word (Romans 10:13-17).

“When it comes to [our] duty [to these people], God has not expressed order upon them or determined the means for their realization, so they should be considered impossible [for example, there is no salvation without repentance, Luke 13:3 (AWP)]; and therefore, as far as we are concerned, they are absolutely like this, and therefore must be evaluated. And it is Impossibility?here basically expected. This is something God has never commanded us to commit ourselves to, nor has He determined the means to reach, nor has He promised to help us. That is why we have no reason to seek, try, or wait, as it is not possible by any law, rule, or constitution of God.

“The Apostle does not continue to instruct us about the nature of future events, besides which our own duty participates. We should not seek to wait, pray, or fight for the renewal of this people for repentance. However, God gave us a law about these things, not Himself. This [renewal for repentance] may be possible for God, as far as we know, and if there is no contradiction with any of the divine properties of His nature; However, He does not force us to expect any of these things from Him, nor has He determined any way for us to commit to them. What He can do, we must accept with confidence; but our duty to these people is completely over. get completely out of our reach? (Dr. John Owen).

It should be carefully noted that throughout this passage in Hebrews 5:11 the apostle speaks of his own ministry. In the hands of God, his servants are the instruments with which he works and carries out his plan of evangelization. So, can Paul correctly say why I have given you the gospel? (I Cor 4:15). And again: “My little children, for whom do I still feel the birth pains, until Christ is formed in you? (Galatians 4:19). So, God’s servants, through the preaching of the gospel, “renewed for repentance? those cited in Hebrews 6: 4. But they apostatized, totally repudiated the Gospel. So be it Impossible? to God’s servants – to renew them for repentance – for the self-sufficient reason that they have no other message to speak to them. They [God’s servants] have no other reserved gospel, nor any other reason to present. The crucified Christ had already been presented to them. He [Christ] has now been denounced as an impostor. Is there no other name? by which they can be saved. His public renunciation of Christ made his case hopeless, as far as God’s servants know. ? Leave them? (Mt. 15:14) is now your command: compare with Judas 22. Whether or not God is possible, according to his holiness, to humiliate them, our passage does not confirm it.

So, for your part, are you crucifying the Son of God again?(verse 6). This is presented to show the gravity of their terrible crime and the inability to renew them for repentance. Renounting their Christian profession, they declared that Christ is an imposter. Therefore, they are unrecoverable. To try to continue arguing with them will simply throw pearls at the pigs [14]. With this verse, the parallel passage of Hebrews 10:26-29 should be carefully compared. These apostates have “received knowledge of the truth,” but not a redeeming knowledge of it. After that, they sinned “on purpose”: there was a deliberate and open disapproval of the truth. The nature of his particular sin is to designate “walking on the Son of God (something no true Christian will do) and counting (considering) the blood of the covenant as unholy,” behold, looking at the one who was hanging the cross as a common evildoer. Therefore, “there is no more sacrifice for sins. “His case is desperate for what man can know; and the writer believes that these are also abandoned by God.

“Thus they crucify the Son of God again and expose him to the oprobrium. “Do you identify with those who crucified him?recognize his divine mission; but have these apostates made such a profession?Did they make any kind of judgment about Christianity and, after the trial, reject it?(Dr. J. Brown).

Such a warning was necessary and well calculated to excite the Indolent Hebrews. Under the economy of the Old Testament, through types and prophecies, they had gained glimpses of truth like Christ, the so-called “word of Christ’s origin”. Under these shadows and glimpses, they had been educated, not knowing all their importance until they were blessed by the full light of the gospel, called here “perfection”. The danger to which they were exposed was to withdraw from the land on which Christianity had placed them and to liberate Judaism. Does doing so mean entering this House that Christ had left behind?(Matthew 23:38), and that would be joining forces with His [Jesus] killers, and therefore? Can I add that the Greek word here for?Crucify? It is a stronger word than is generally used: it means “to crucify at the top”. Therefore, attention turns to the erection of the cross on which the Savior was suspended out of public contempt.

Taking the passage as a whole, it should be remembered that all who professed to receive the gospel were not born of God: the parable of the sower shows that intelligence must be informed, consciousness examined, natural feelings cut off, and not yet “rooted” in them. Not all that shines is gold, is there always one?Mix of people? (Exodus 12:38) that accompanies God’s people. In addition, there is an old heart in the true Christian, which is “deceptive, more than all things, and wicked,” so he constantly needs a reliable warning. God gave each dispensation: Genesis 2:17; Leviticus 26: 15-16; Matthew 3: 8; Romans 11:21; 1 Corinthians 10:12.

Finally, it must be said that while the scriptures speak clearly and positively of the perseverance of the Saints, it is always a perseverance of the saints, not of un regenerated teachers. Divine preservation is not only in a safe situation, but also on a sacred path of disposition and conduct. We are “by faith, kept in the virtue of God for salvation. “We are protected by the Spirit who works in us a spirit of total dependence, renounting our own wisdom and strength. The only place we cannot fall from is the one below, in the dust; it is there that the Lord seeks his own people, uprooting them with confidence in the flesh, and giving them the experience that it is when they are weak when they are strong. these are saved and saved forever.

1 Are all the biblical texts quoted in this study taken from Joel Ferreira’s translation of Almeida?Corrected and faithfully revised to the original text (ACF), published by the Biblical Society of Trinidad and Tobago of Brazil, unless otherwise noted.

2 NT? The original English word is “teacher”, which means someone who professes a certain belief. In reference to Christians, the act of professing faith does not necessarily imply that this person has been regenerated by the blood of the Lamb of God. meaning by which this word must be understood in this study: a person who professes the Christian faith but has not been transformed by Christ.
