Pastor, your only precedence is to preach

When you look at the list of qualifications for the elders in the New Testament, you see that it is not so noticeable. It is not that it is not important, and it is certainly not short; it’s just not that notorious. What I’m trying to say is that the expected qualifications of the elders are basically ordained to all Christians somewhere in the scriptures. Besides, everyone has to do with character, except one: does man need to be apt to teach?(1 Tim 3. 2). This is the only non-negotiable skill or talent that is among the requirements of the presbytery. Paulo expands this a little more for Titus:

cling to the faithful word, which conforms to doctrine, so that it may have the power both to exhort a just teaching and to convince those who contradict it (Tt 1:9).

  • There are many things a pastor should be able to do.
  • But there is only one that he must be able to do: he must be able to preach.

Both passages find a clear summary in the last epistle Paul wrote before his death:

I pray you, before God and Jesus Christ, that you will judge the living and the dead, for their manifestation and for their kingdom: preach the word, exhort, whether it is convenient or not, correct, rebuke, exhort with patience and doctrine. . (2 Tim 4. 1-2)

I don’t know about you, but if Paul wanted to focus my attention on an important announcement, I don’t think I can go any further: “I conjure you, before God and Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead?”and for its manifestation? With this introduction, you know something monumental is about to be conveyed.

And what is this thing of monumental importance?Preach the Word! That’s what the department should fundamentally define. There are many needs that require the attention of a pastor and voices crying for their time. But a pastor’s first priority is to preach. Pastors must preach tirelessly and courageously, and they must patiently fulfill their duties as people who keep the word of God.

The Bible establishes an inseparable link between preaching (or teaching) and the pastor. To be old, you must know how to teach; and if you’re an old man, you have to teach. While the New Testament does not mention any specific gift of “preaching,” the public proclamation of the word of God is indisputable, clearly placing this noble duty to “preach the Word. “the heart of pastoral care.

God’s people are mainly led by the prosecution, it is very simple. Many men love the word of God, can conduct effective discussions, can express doctrines clearly, or are captivating communicators, and these men have an important role to play in God’s church, but God’s grace for the pastor is expressed through the power of preaching. that conveys the truth and strengthens faith in God through the promises of the gospel.

If you are called to be a pastor or to found a church, you are called to preach, whether or not you are attracted to it much, it may be interesting to hear the pastoral call.
