When I became a senior pastor, in the transition from the role of auxiliary pastor to another church, I was very busy in my life and ministry, busier than at any previous time. I definitely knew what I was called to do. I knew what I had. what to do. Still, week after week I have seen things that I should have excluded from my agenda because of urgent requests, especially the task that seemed more hasty was prayer.
And I don’t think he’s alone in this. More than any other aspect of a pastor’s call, prayer is the hardest to maintain. Prayer takes time. And prayer is often more beneficial in a quiet place, without interruptions and constant distractions. Unfortunately, prayer will not come to you demanding your attention.
- In the midst of people who want their time and urgent tasks to be fulfilled.
- It is easy to forget to spend time in prayer.
A pastor knows that he will preach every seven days, no matter how busy he is; you have to do the sermon, and then you reserve time for that; there are also patients in the hospital whose suffering weighs on your conscience, so even if you are busy, you will eventually find time to visit them. Funerals are also held, and a pastor is available to the family and funeral plans. Meetings of pastors and deaconos are planned in advance and become priorities on the pastoral agenda In addition, others depend on it to be there and lead, but none of this happens with prayer.
Prayer may weigh on your conscience, but it does not complain, it remains on the to-do list of the day, but those for whom we do not pray do not know that they are forgotten, while other requests rob us, prayer is pushed to Many shepherds, including myself, we will continue weeks after weeks until finally this soft and necessary voice that calls us to stop and pray will disappear , if enough time passes, the voice of conviction and desire will disappear when this happens. , prayer is expelled from your life.
Ironically, a pastor may be so busy caring for his people that he never finds time to stop and pray for them.
Pastors, I know your schedules are full, I am aware of the great demands of your time that press your conscience, but do not forget to pray for your people this week, pray with your people. Set up time in a quiet place and cry out to God for his people, keep other pastoral offices waiting. It is safe to say that they are less important than prayer.
