October 4th? Daily devotion CHARLES SPURGEON

Verse of the day: There will be light in the afternoon (Zechariah 14:7).

We often look forward to old age, forgetting that there will be light at dusk. For many believers, old age is the best time in life. A balmy air blows over the sailor’s face as he approaches the shores of immortality. Fewer and fewer waves shake the Old Believer’s ocean, and stillness reigns quietly, solemnly, and deeply. From the altar of age, the lights of the fire of youth have been extinguished, yet the most real flame of sincere sentiment remains. They are pilgrims who came to the land of Beulá, this blessed land whose days are like the days of heaven on earth (Isaiah 62,4). Some believers remain for many years on this earth. Others arrive there a few hours before leaving for eternity. It is good for us to wish for the moment when we will lie down in its shady forests and be satisfied with hope until the moment of realization comes. The sunset seems brighter than the glow of noon, and a splendor of glory dyes all the clouds surrounding the sun with beautiful colors at this time. Does not pain destroy the serenity of the sweet twilight of age, because at the age of 11 power is perfected in weakness? (2 Corinthians 12: 9). The ripe and select fruits of experience are harvested as if they were scarce food in the night of life, and the soul prepares for rest. Disbelief regrets seeing, shadows fall, night draws near and existence draws to an end. Faith says, “No, the night is almost over and the real day is near. ” The light is coming, the light of immortality and the presence of the Father. When you know it is time to meet the Lord, see the armies of spirits that await you. The angels will take you home! Goodbye, dear parents! You move your hand; you go. The light has come. The pearl gates are open and the streets of gold sparkle with a jasper light. We cover our eyes, but now you are looking at the invisible. Goodbye brother, you have light at night, because we don’t know yet.
