October 2nd? Daily devotion CHARLES SPURGEON

Verse of the day: the hope that is kept in heaven (Colossses 1. 5)

Our hope in Christ for the future is the main source of our joy in this world. This hope encourages our hearts to think of heaven often, because everything we can wish for is guaranteed there. In this world, we feel tired and tired; Heaven, however, is a place of rest where the sweat of work will no longer wet the worker’s forehead and fatigue will disappear forever. For the tired, the word? Break? it is full of paradise. Now we are still on the battlefield. We are so tried on the inside and so assaulted on the outside that we have little time to rest. But in heaven we will enjoy victory, when the flag is raised in triumph and the sword sheathed, we will hear the captain say: “Is it alright, good and faithful servant?” (Matthew 25:21). Suits has suffered the continual loss of loved ones, but we are heading to the homeland of the immortals, where the graves are unknown. In this world, sin is a constant affliction for us. In heaven, however, we will be perfectly holy. Nothing that corrupts will enter this realm. Poisonous weeds cannot grow in the furrows of the heavenly fields. What a joy not to be banished forever, not to stay forever in this wilderness, and soon inherit Canaan! However, men should not say of us that we dream of the future and forget about the present. The future must sanctify the present, leading us to sublime goals. By the Spirit of God, the hope of heaven is the most powerful force for the fruit of virtue. It is a source of joyous efforts. It is the cornerstone to encourage holiness. The man who has this hope will work willingly, because the joy of the Lord is his strength. Fight with fervor against temptation, because the hope of the world to come repels the fiery darts of the adversary. You can work without present reward, because you long for reward in the world to come.
