October 29th? Daily devotion CHARLES SPURGEON

Verse of the day: You will pray like this: our Father in heaven (Matthew 6:9).

This prayer begins where all true prayer must begin: with the spirit of adoption: “Our Father. ” There will be no acceptable prayer until we say, “I will get up and go to my Father. ” (Luke 15:18). This spirit of son soon perceives the greatness of the Father, “in the heavens”, and ascends in pious adoration: “Hallowed be your name? (Matthew 6,9). The child babbles:? Aba, father? An angel that shouts : “Holy, holy, holy. ” There is only one step between widespread worship and fiery missionary spirit, which is an infallible renewal of filial love and respectful worship. Your kingdom comes; your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven? (v. 10). Then we have the sincere expression of dependence on God: “Give us today our daily bread? (v. 11). Then, enlightened by the Holy Spirit, the believer Who now discovers that He is only dependent, but also sinful, therefore he begs for mercy? (v. 12) The man who is truly forgiven cannot wait to offend God again. Having justification leads to an intense desire for sanctification. ? Forgive us our debts. ? (V. 12) – this is the justification. “Let us not fall into temptation, but deliver us from e vile? (v. 13) – this is sanctification in its negative and positive forms. Having been forgiven, the righteousness of Christ imputed, and aware of his acceptance before God, the believer humbly pleads for his perseverance: “Are we not falling into temptation? (v. 13). As a result of all this, triumphant praise arises: “Yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever. Amen!? (v. 13). We rejoice that our King reigns in providence and will reign in grace from the river to the ends of the earth, and his reign will never cease. Therefore, this brief prayer pattern takes the soul from the sense of adoption to communion with our reigning Lord. Lord, teach us to pray like this.
