October 24th? Daily devotion CHARLES SPURGEON

Verse of the day: The Lord’s trees are refreshed (Psalm 104. 16).

Without sap, a tree cannot flourish or exist. Vitality is essential for the believer. Does life have to exist? a vital principle instilled in us by God, the Holy Spirit. The simple confession of being a believer is just a deadly thing. Fit to be filled with the Spirit of divine life. This life is mysterious. We do not understand the circulation of the sap, by what force it rises and by what force it descends. Therefore, life in us is a sacred mystery. The Holy Spirit achieves regeneration when he enters a man and becomes his life. So this divine life, in a believer, is nourished by the flesh and blood of Christ, and in this way is sustained by divine food. But where does it come from and where is it going, who can explain it? What a secret thing sap is! The roots sink deeper into the ground, but we do not see them exhale the various gases and transform the mineral into a plant. This work is then done hidden. Our root is the Lord Jesus and our life is hidden in him. It is the secret of the Lord. The main source of the Christian life is as secret as life itself. How the sap of the cedar is constantly active! In the believer, the divine life is always full of energy, not always in fruit, but in internal operations. The virtues of the believer are not always at work, but his life never stops beating inside. The believer does not always work for God; your heart, however, still lives in Him. Just as the sap manifests itself in the production of the foliage and fruit of the tree, so it is with any true healthy believer. Divine grace in the believer is externally manifested in his speech and in his daily walk. If you talk to this type of believer, you will soon hear him talk about Jesus. If you look at your actions, you will see that you have been with Jesus. This believer has a lot of sap in his soul, a sap that will fill his words and conduct with life.
