Serving God With Care
Verse of the day: The God who made the world and all that it contains, being Lord of heaven and earth, does not live in sanctuaries made by human hands. Nor is it served by human hands, as if it needed anything; for he himself is the one who gives all life, encouragement, and everything else (Acts 17:24-25)
- We do not glorify God by meeting his needs.
- But by praying that He will provide our own and with the confidence that He will respond.
We are here in the heart of the good news of Christian hedonism, God’s insistence that we ask Him to help us, so that He may receive glory (Ps 50. 15), compels us to the surprising fact that we must be careful in serving God and take special care that He will serve us so that His glory is not stolen.
That sounds very strange. Most of us think that serving God is totally positive; We do not consider that serving God can be an insult to Him, but pondering the meaning of prayer requires this reflection, Acts 17:24-25 clarifies this to us.
This is the same reasoning as Robinson Crusoe’s text on prayer: “If I were hungry, I would not tell you, because the world is mine and how many are there? Call me to the day of anguish; will I deliver you and glorify you? ? (Psalm 50. 12, 15).
Of course, there is a way to serve God that would insult him, as if he needed our service. “Didn’t the same Son of Man come to be served?(Mark 10. 45). Your goal is to be the servant. Your goal is to achieve fame as a supplier.
