Verse of the Day: I was delighted with the coming of the brethren and their testimony of your truth as you walked in the truth (3 John 3).
The truth was in Gaius; and walked in the truth. If the first statement were different, the second could never happen; and if the second statement could not be said about him, the first would have been a mere simulation. The truth must enter the soul, penetrate it and saturate it; otherwise it will have no value. Doctrines held as a matter of faith are like bread in the hand, which does not nourish the body. But the doctrine that we accept in the heart is like a digested food, which by assimilation nourishes and sustains the body. In us, the truth must be a living force, an active energy, a reality that inhabits us, part of the essence of our being. If the truth is in us, we cannot separate it from us. A man may even lose his body clothes or limbs, but his internal parts are vital and cannot be removed without compromising life. A believer can die, but he cannot deny the truth. Now, it is a rule of nature that the interior affects the exterior, just as the light shines from the center of the lantern through the glass. When the truth is inflamed internally, its radiance soon radiates to life and external behavior. Some caterpillars are said to color the silk cocoon they weave. Likewise, the food that sustains a man’s life gives color to every word and every act that comes from it. Walking in the truth implies a life of integrity, holiness, faithfulness and simplicity, the natural result of the principles of truth that the Gospel teaches and that the Spirit of God allows us to receive. We can judge the secrets of the soul through its manifestation in the course of man. O Spirit of grace, may we be governed today by your divine authority. Let nothing false or sinful reign in our hearts, so that it does not spread its evil influence in our daily walk among men.
