Glorifying by thanking
Verse of the day: All things exist for you, so that grace, as it multiplies, may make abundant thanksgiving in many, for the glory of God (2 Corinthians 4. 15).
- Gratitude is a joy directed to God for his grace.
- But in his own nature.
- Gratitude glorifies the giver; gratitude recognizes your own need and the donor’s charity.
So how can I humiliate myself and start out the waitress at the restaurant when I say?Thank you, so I humiliate and startle God when I’m grateful to him. The difference, of course, is that, in fact, I’m indebted to him. God by his grace, and everything he does for me is free and undeserved.
But the fact is, gratitude glorifies the giver. Glorifie Dieu. Et is Paul’s ultimate goal in all his work: for the church?Yes, yes, yes, yes, but beyond, for the glory of God.
The wonderful thing about the gospel is that the answer it demands of us for the glory of God is also the answer we consider to be the most natural and joyful; that is, gratitude for grace. The glory of God and our joy are not in competition.
A life that gives glory to God for his grace and a life of deep joy are always the same life, and what makes them one is gratitude.
