Verse of the Day: Avoid Unreasonable Arguments. (Tite 3. 9)
Our days are few and we have a better time doing good and not arguing over minor matters. In the past, men have created a world of prejudice due to petty and incessant conflict over matters of little practical importance. Our churches also suffer from petty dark spot wars and trivial cases. Discussion does not promote knowledge more than it loves. It is foolish to sow in such a barren field. Questions about matters that the Scriptures are silent about, about mysteries that belong exclusively to God, about prophecies of questionable interpretation, and about simple ways of observing human ceremonies? These questions are crazy; and the wise avoid them. Our duty is not to ask or answer such questions, but to reject them entirely. If we observe the apostle’s injunction to be “mindful in the practice of good works? (Titus 3. 8), we will be too busy with useful services to be interested in shameful, unnecessary and contentious endeavors. However, there are problems that are contrary to stupid cases, which we cannot avoid. We must answer questions like these accurately and sincerely: Do I really believe in the Lord Jesus Christ? Am I renewed in the spirit of my understanding? Am I walking in the Spirit and not in the flesh? Am I growing in grace? Does my speech adorn the doctrine of God my Savior? Do I await the coming of the Lord and do I look like a servant waiting for his Lord? What else can I do for Jesus? Matters like these urgently require our attention. If we tend to argue over little things, let’s put our Essential Skills in a much more profitable job. Let’s be peacemakers, do we strive to lead others, both by teaching and by example, to avoid silly arguments?
