November 15th? Daily devotion CHARLES SPURGEON

Verse of the Day: The Part of the Lord Is His People (Deuteronomy 32. 9)

How are they from the Lord? By your sovereign choice. The Lord chose them and put his love in them. The Lord did this completely, regardless of whatever goodness He saw in them. The Lord had mercy on whom he himself wanted to have mercy and ordained a group of the elect for eternal life. Therefore, they are part of the Lord by their spontaneous choice. They also belong to the Lord by acquisition. The Lord bought them and paid every penny. There can be no dispute over the right of the Lord. The part of the Lord was completely redeemed, not by corruptible things, like gold or silver, but by the precious blood of Christ (see 1 Peter 1:18, 19). Opposing plaintiffs cannot bring any action. The price has been paid in front of the entire tribunal, and the church belongs to the Lord forever. See the blood mark on all the chosen ones. It is invisible to human eyes, but it is known to Christ, because the Lord knows those who belong to him. (2 Timothy 2:19). He does not forget any of those he redeemed among men. The Lord is counting the sheep for which he gave his life and remembers very well the church for which he gave himself. They also belong to the Lord by conquest. What a struggle the Lord had with us before we were defeated! How long has the Lord had to besiege our hearts! How many times did he send us terms of surrender, but we had closed our gates and fortified our walls against him, he put his cross against the wall and climbed our trenches, planting in our fortresses the red flag of his omnipotent mercy! Yes, we have certainly become captives conquered by almighty love. Therefore, having been chosen, bought and submitted, the rights of our Lord are inalienable. We hope never to be ourselves. We wish, day after day, to do his will and reveal his glory.
