Seven sources of joy
Verse of the day: I am very comforted and brimming with joy in all our tribulations (2 Corinthians 7. 4).
Paul’s amazing thing is how incredibly lasting his joy was when things didn’t go well.
Where does that come from?
First, this was taught by Jesus: “Blessed are you when men hate you?”Rejoice that day and rejoice, what is the value of your reward in heaven?(Luke 6. 22-23). For Jesus, tribulations are part of his interest in heaven, which lasts much longer than earth.
Second, it comes from the Holy Ghost and not from our own efforts, imagination, or family education. Is the fruit of the Spirit joy? (Galatians 5. 22). Having received the word, already in the midst of many tribulations, with joy of the Holy Ghost?(1 Thessaloniki 1. 6).
Third, it comes from belonging to the kingdom of God. “The kingdom of God is not food or drink, but justice, peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. (Romans 14:17).
Fourth, it comes through faith, that is, through faith in God. “And can the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in your faith?(Romans 15:13). And, convinced of this, I am sure that I will stay and stay with all of you, that you may progress and enjoy the faith (Philippians 1:25).
Fifth, it comes from considering and knowing Jesus as Lord. Do you always rejoice in the Lord? (Philippians 4. 4).
Sixth, it comes from other believers who try to help us focus on these sources of joy, rather than in deceptive circumstances. “Are we the collaborators of your joy? (2 Corinthians 1:24).
Seventh, this comes from the sanctifying effects of tribulations. “We pride ourselves on our own tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; perseverance, experience; experience, hope?(Romans 5. 3-4).
If we are not yet like Paul, he calls us to be. “Be my imitators, how am I also of Christ?(1 Corinthians 11: 1). And for most of us, it’s a call to sincere prayer. It’s a supernatural life.
