March 16th? Daily devotion CHARLES SPURGEON

Verse of the day 😕 I’m oblivious to your presence. (Psalm 39. 12)

Oh Lord, I am a stranger to Your presence, but not to You. Oh Lord, your grace has effectively removed all my natural alienation from you. Now, in communion with you, I walk in this sinful world like a pilgrim in a foreign land. You are an alien in your own world. Men forget you, dishonor you, establish new laws, strange customs, and don’t know you. When your beloved Son came to his people, they did not receive him (see John 1:11). He was in the world, the world was made by him and the world did not know him (see John 1:10). Never has a stranger been considered such a doubtful figure as your beloved Son among his own. Therefore, it should not surprise me if, living the life of Jesus, I am a stranger and a stranger in this world. Oh God, I don’t want to be a citizen of a place where the Lord Jesus was a stranger. His pierced hands untied the cords that bound my soul to this world; now I feel like an alien on earth. A barbarian would be more comfortable in elegant social surroundings than I would in the company of sinners. However, here is the kindness from me: I am a stranger to you; You are my companion in suffering and on pilgrimage. Oh! What a joy to be with this blessed companion! My heart burns in my heart when you speak to me, and although I am a traveler, I am much more blessed than those who sit on thrones or live in comfortable homes.

For me, there is no place, there is no time; My country will be where God wants it.

I can rest easy and still where God is

When we search for a place or walk away from it, the soul feels unhappy anywhere.

But with God guiding us on our way, it’s always a pleasure to leave or stay.
