Night falls on the city of Rio de Janeiro, and with its arrival another day of evangelization comes to an end, to date more than 180,000 resources have been distributed, among physical books in five languages, e-books in six languages and information. brochures accompanying download cards.
Everyone talks about the need to be safe on the busy streets of the city, but few talk about the possibilities of people who can be found. Last week, our team handed out resources to a Middle Eastern gold medalist; two men from the German rowing team; to a messic Jewish street preacher who listens to R. C. Sproul on the radio and thousands of other men and women whose names will never be informed, but whose souls are no less important.
- In these weeks of the 2016 Olympic Games.
- Here in Rio a large door has been opened.
- Boxes of books are counted and volunteers open them on sidewalks or banks.
- Generously sharing with others how they are distributed to cover a place.
- A small team contacts churches to request resources.
- Provides information to people who offer to help with distribution.
- Controls various aspects of work.
- And updates social media with photos and videos of work.
While televisions from around the world tune into the stadiums and arenas between the skyscrapers, angular streets, beautiful beaches, buildings and hills of this famous city, the church mobilizes its members, men, women and children gather at the entrance of the Olympic Park and in the famous park on the edge of the lagoon; at the feet of Christ the Redeemer at the top of the mountain; in several houses where foreigners stay throughout the city and on Copacabana beach; between vast slums and many other places, all with a common purpose.
The opportunity is great, and God has especially empowered the church here in Brazil for a time like this. Decades of ministry have enabled Fiel to develop relationships with churches across the country, and as these historic two weeks draw closer, Ligonier and 9Marks have provided Fiel with the right evangelism resources for the occasion. Two years ago, the World Cup was the perfect opportunity to demonstrate such a smaller-scale operation, and extensive logistical planning was carried out to ensure efficient distribution of materials as well as good communication. between delivery points, as evangelism has progressed.
In Matthew 28, Jesus called his church to visit all nations, and during these two weeks his people in Brazil have the opportunity to reach the ends of the earth within their own borders. The body of Christ passed through the doors of his churches and it took to see them put the gospel message in the hands of the passing crowd is really beautiful, and the words of CS Lewis come to mind when he said, “There are no ordinary people. You’ve never spoken to a mere mortal. Nations, cultures, arts, civilizations . . . they are mortal and their lives are related to us as the life of a mosquito, but is it the immortals we have fun with, work, marry, talk and exploit?Immortal or eternal horrors, splendors ?.
The Games will end, the medal count will be completed, applauded and then slowly forgotten. Join us in prayer that the eternal fruit of these days will multiply as our books open out of curiosity, while mobile phones complete the download, while conversations for us may know little about the real effects, but we have our God’s promise that His Word will not return empty , and this promise encourages us to go out and proclaim the truth. all of them.
