Our Jesus extends his arms to men and women, to sinners, to passers-by. There were many passers-by this afternoon to the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro, this imposing figure who extends his arms over the city below. During these historic weeks, hundreds of thousands of people came from all over the world to this coastal site, with groups of buildings, wild vegetation and beautiful hills; and everyone finds at least a second to look up and contemplate this wonder of the world.
Yesterday afternoon, the distribution team made the trip to the mountain by taxi, on foot and by bus, the wind blew and froze the crowds that hueked and squeezed around the monument, our team took a few minutes to enjoy the view, walk around the stone. fence and take pictures before you start distributing books. The landscape eclipses everything around it, the mountain rises in the sky and the thoughts that filled each mind before such a view could only be imagined.
- The irony of the moment was great.
- Because we were there.
- Smiling at strangers.
- Asking for a few seconds of time and giving away books: a call to the shadow of Christ the Redeemer.
- In the name of Christ who came to redeem us.
- We jostle between the flesh and blood that inherited the curse of Adam’s fall.
- And yet we reject the promise of life in the new Adam.
Crowds drawn away from home to witness the competitions among the best athletes, here they were led to look at the most emblematic image of Brazil, all the time remained unattended to the Vivente who created and trained the human body for such feats. “Do all those who are tired and oppressed come to me?”This Man is not dead, but he lives, and the hands that attract the chosen are not stone hands like those of Christ the Redeemer, but hands of flesh that have been extended because of those who want to believe.
By distributing books, downloading maps and brochures, we are aware that there is much at stake, that sooner or later every man will bend his knees in recognition of our Lord and Savior. One day, as Isaiah says, the glory of the Lord will be revealed and all the flesh will see it together.
Pray with us that the harvest of these seedlings may be abundant and that many may meet with the kingdom as a result of this evangelization; may the Word come with the power to conquer the hearts of many, that they may stop and look. marvel at the person of Christ, the Redeemer of mankind.
