Why live in communion with other brothers? Is God’s will for us? Find the answer to these questions in the article “Love as one body,” written by Bob Kauflin:
The Psalmist declares, “I rejoiced when they said unto me, Shall we go to the house of the Lord?(Psalm 122: 1, emphasis added). The distractions of the world, the wrong theology, or the sin that inhabits us can make us lose sight of why we should be happy to meet on a Saturday. We may even begin to think that private devotions are an adequate, if not superior, substitute for church meetings.
- Clearly.
- Private and bodily worship is essential to our relationship with God.
- However.
- There are reasons why the Hebrew writer warned us not to follow the custom of some: neglect the encounter with the body (Hebrews 10:25)?.
While Hebrews 10:25 directly declares that we should not fail to unite as a church, Paul’s repeated use of the phrase “when they meet” in 1 Corinthians 11 and 14 indicates that the Corinthians met regularly. The church is often referred to as the home of this or that, and we can assume that he did not refer to the “Church” as a physical structure, but to the people who met regularly in this house.
