June 9th? Daily devotion CHARLES SPURGEON

Daily verse: “Certainly the Lord has done great things for us; then we’re happy. (Psalm 126. 3)

Unfortunately, many believers tend to look at the dark side of all things and spend a lot of time thinking about what they have been through, rather than thinking about what God has done for them. Ask them about their impressions of Christian life and they will describe their permanent conflicts, their deep afflictions, their sad adversity and the sin of their hearts, without any reference to the mercy and help God has given them.

  • However.
  • A believer whose soul is healthy will come forward with joy and say.
  • “I will not speak of myself.
  • But of the honor of my God.
  • You pulled me out of a doomed well.
  • Out of a mud earthquake? And you put on my lips a new song.
  • A hymn of praise to our God?(Psalm 40: 2.
  • 3) The Lord has done great things for me.
  • So am I happy? The story of experiences like these is the best that every child of God can offer in response.

It is true that we are going through trials, but it is also true that we are freed from them; it is true that we have our depravity, and we know it with regret, but it is also true that we have a sufficient Savior, who overcomes these corruptions and frees us from his dominion. Looking back, it would be a mistake to deny that we have been in the swamp of discouragement and that we have crawled through the valley of humiliation, but it would also be ungodly to forget that we have crossed them safely and profitingly. We did not stay in them, thanks to our powerful Assistant and Chief who took us to a spacious place (see Psalm 66. 12). The deeper our problems, the greater our gratitude to God, who has guided us through all and preserved us so far. Our sadness cannot spoil the melody of our praises; Do we see it as the tone of the music of our lives, so are we happy?
