We live by faith
Verse of the day: This life which I now have in the flesh, I live it by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me (Galatians 2. 20).
- Faith is perfectly suited to God’s future grace; this corresponds to the gratuitousness and adequacy of grace.
- And this draws attention to God’s glorious reliability.
An important implication of this conclusion is that the faith it justifies and the faith it sanctifies are not two different types of faith. Sanctify? It simply means sanctifying or transforming in the likeness of Christ, everything is by grace.
Therefore, it must also be by faith, because faith is the act of the soul that connects to grace, receives it, channels it as the power of obedience, and maintains it to be undone through human boasting.
Paul emphasizes this link between faith and sanctification in Galatians 2. 20 (“Living by Faith”). Sanctification is done through the Spirit and faith, which is another way of saying that it is through grace and faith. Is the Spirit of Grace the Spirit of Grace?(Hebrews 10:29). The fact that God sanctifies us is the work of His Spirit; but the Spirit acts by faith in the gospel.
The simple reason why the faith it justifies is also the faith that sanctifies is that justification and sanctification are works of sovereign grace. They are not the same kind of work, but both are works of grace. Is sanctification and justification grace over grace?(John 1:16).
The corollary of free grace is faith. If both justification and sanctification are works of grace, it is natural that both are by faith.
