The death trap called greed
Verse of the day: Those who want to enrich themselves fall into temptation, trap, and many foolish and pernicious lusts that plunge men into ruin and doom (1 Timothy 6,9).
Greed can destroy the soul in hell
The reason I am sure that this destruction is not a temporary financial failure, but the ultimate destruction in hell is what Paul says in 1 Timothy 6. 12. He says that one must resist greed by fighting faith; He then adds: “Take possession of eternal life, to which you were also called and of which you have made a good confession. “What is at stake to escape greed and fight for contentment in future grace is eternal life.
So when Paul says in 1 Timothy 6: 9 that the desire to be rich drives people to ruin, he is not saying that greed can damage your marriage or your job (which it certainly can!). He says greed can ruin your eternity. Or, as 1 Timothy 6:10 says at the end: “In this lust, have you strayed from the faith and tormented yourself with great pain? (Literally:? They fell asleep with much pain?”
God has done all he can in the Bible to warn us with mercy that the idolatry of greed is a situation of loss; it’s a dead end in the worst sense of the word. It’s an illusion and a trap.
Therefore, my word is that of 1 Timothy 6. 11: “Execute these things”. When you see it coming (in a TV commercial, in a Christmas catalog, in an Internet ad, or buying a neighbor), run away from a roaring, hungry lion that has escaped from a zoo.
