June 19th? Daily devotion CHARLES SPURGEON

Verse of the day: “They were all filled with the Holy Ghost” (Acts 2. 4).

Being filled with the Holy Spirit is a precious blessing. It would be impossible to overestimate the consequences of this sacred soul filling. Life, comfort, purity, light, power, peace, and many other precious blessings are inextricably linked with the presence of the Holy Spirit. Like holy oil, the Spirit anoints our heads, sets us apart for the priesthood of the saints, and gives us the grace to perform our role in the right way. As the only truly cleansing water, the Holy Spirit cleanses us from the power of sin and sanctifies us, working in us to do the good will of God (see Philippians 2:13). As light, the Holy Spirit manifested himself to us when we were lost. Now, He reveals the Lord Jesus to us, in our spirit, leading us on the path of righteousness. Illuminated by the pure and heavenly rays of the Holy Spirit, we no longer live in darkness, but in the light of the Lord. Like fire, it purifies us of dross and burns our consecrated nature. Is the Holy Spirit the sacrificial flame for which we are authorized to offer our whole soul as a “living sacrifice”? God (Romans 12: 1). Like a heavenly dew, the Holy Spirit removes our sterility and bears fruit in our life. Oh, that from above descend on us! This morning dew is a good start to the day. Like a heavenly dove, with wings of peaceful love, the Holy Spirit rests on his Church and on the souls of believers. As Comforter, the Holy Spirit dispels doubts and worries that can contaminate the peace of His beloved. The Holy Spirit descends on the elect, as it descended on the Lord in the Jordan, and testifies of their sonship, producing a spirit of sonship through which they cry out: “Abba, Father !? (Galatians 4. 6). Like the wind, the Holy Spirit brings the breath of life to men. Blowing where it wants, it performs life-giving operations, through which the spiritual creation is strengthened and animated. Pray to God that we can feel the presence of the Holy Spirit today and every day.
