It helps my disbelief
Verse of the day: For, by the grace that has been given to me, I say to each of you that you do not think of yourself beyond the right; rather think sparingly, according to the measure of faith that God has shared with each one (Romans 12:3).
- In the context of this verse.
- Paul is concerned that people think of themselves “beyond what is appropriate.
- “His definitive remedy for this pride is to say not only that spiritual gifts are the work of God’s free grace in our lives.
- But the faith with which we use these gifts is also the work of God’s free grace.
This means that all possible reasons for bragging are eliminated. How can we brag if even qualifying for gifts is also a gift?
This truth has a profound impact on the way we pray. Jesus gives us an example in Luke 22:31-32. Before Peter denied it three times, Jesus said to him, “Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has asked you to like wheat, but I prayed for you that your faith would not fail; Then, when you convert, will you strengthen your brothers?
Jesus prays that Peter’s faith may be sustained in spite of sin, because he knows that God is the one who sustains the faith, therefore we must pray for ourselves and for others in this way.
Then the man with the epileptic child shouted, “I think!Help me in my lack of faith!” (Mark 9. 24). It’s a good prayer. He recognizes that without God we cannot believe as we should.
Let us pray every day: “O Lord, I thank you for my faith. Support him, strengthen him, deepen him. Don’t let it fail. Make it the power of my life, so that in everything I do, you may achieve glory as a great donor. Amen?.
