Faith for the future
Because God’s promises are many, many have a yes in him (2 Corinthians 1:20).
- If “How many of God’s promises do so many have a yes in him?” then trusting him in the present is believing that his promises will be fulfilled.
They are not two distinct religions: trust him and believe in his promises. Believing in Jesus means believing that he is keeping his word. Being satisfied now with Jesus crucified and risen includes the belief that in every future moment, for all eternity, nothing will separate us from his love or prevent him from doing everything for good.
In view of all this, I would say that the spiritual beauty we must embrace is the beauty of God that will be for us in the future, guaranteed by the glorious grace of the past.
Do we need to test God’s spiritual beauty now in all his past accomplishments?Especially the death and resurrection of Christ for our sins?And in all his promises, should we trust and believe in all that God Himself will be to us at the next moment, in the next month, and in the infinite centuries of eternity?Illuminate the knowledge of God’s glory in the face of Christ?(2 Corinthians 4. 6).
He will only satisfy the soul in the future. And it is the future that must be assured and satisfied with the spiritual riches of glory, if we want to live the radical Christian life that Christ calls us to live here and now.
If our present enjoyment of Christ, our present faith, if there is no yes in him for all of God’s promises now, that joy will not comprehend the power of radical service in the strength that God (at every future moment) will provide (1 Peter 4:11).
My prayer is that as we reflect on the essence of faith, we will be helped to avoid superficial and simplistic affirmations about faith in God’s promises. It’s a deep and wonderful thing.
